Hi everyone,

Was wondering if there is any chance of getting an exception to the three year waiting period before applying for US citzenship?

I received my green card (CF-1) on 4th April 2015 and would normally have to wait the three years befor applying for citzenship (my spouse is a US citizen).

There is a job I have been offered but am unable to accept as it would require working on military aircraft, and the customer requires that only US citizens be around their equipment. I feel I am in a reasonable position to request an exemption to the normal 3 year period as I have a clean history and prior service in the Australian Army (with security clearance), and intend to reside in the US permanently. I also have fairly specialized skills.

Does anyone think I have a reasonable chance of getting this exemption? And if so, who should I contact in order to make it happen? Or am I just dreaming?

Thanking you in advance for your reponses!

You probably need the advice of an immigration lawyer. In any event, found this link with some useful info on waivers and exceptions.

I highly doubt it. The government had to draw a line somewhere and it is normally 2 years and 9 months before you can BEGIN the US Citizenship process, not a day earlier.

Hi,

One full year of US military service as an LPR or having a spouse who works for the US government or military and is stationed overseas are the only ways to get expedited naturalization.

Your service in the Australian military and having special skills does not qualify for expedited naturalization.

Best of luck
