Making the move!

Just trying to plan ahead here. Good thing I checked out this forum because I never would have known that I need a letter from Chrysler to import my vehicle when moving day comes.

I'll be towing a rented U-Haul trailer when I cross and activate my K-1. It seems as though people are suggesting having a list of everything in the trailer. Is there anything I need to provide? Will I be having to pay duties on anything?

My understanding is that all my dog needs are up-to-date rabies shots, correct?

Best thing to do is call the US boarder services where you will be crossing. I travel quite a bit back and forth and own homes on both sides. To save a bunch of problems with your dog just get a health certificate. I had a problem one time with fido and they told me I could have just taken a rabies tag from another dog. It ended up with a crossing delay while the vet faxed records to the boarder

Yes the dog only needs up to date shots. Take the actual shot records with you not just the tag off them and that will be enough.

Most of us here just write up a list in case they ask for one. On the personal belongings you don't get charged duty. For the car I have no idea how that works so will let the others help you there.

I will be bringing both of my cats home to Arkansas with me when my husband and I both cross into the US. When I brought them up, I had their rabies shots, but the Canadian border agents didn't even look at the cats. Both are very healthy, although I want to be sure that crossing back into the US goes smoothly, of course.

Should I go ahead and get their shots done again? It was 2012 when they had a rabies shot, but do I need to get that and possibly more when entering the US?

I cross the border about twice a week with my beagle and they check the vaccination cards maybe 1/5 times, but if you're entering on a K1 I'd make sure to have everything I could think of to avoid delays.
