Paying by Demand Draft from Philippines

Hello everyone,

We've finally finished our packet and its ready to be shipped. We tried to do DCF but doesn't qualify.

I'm currently outside the US and be mailing our I-130 thru Chicago Lockbox, but we've kinda hit a wall with the payment method as I only learned yesterday that it needs to be from a bank in the US so I did my research yesterday and found out that people used international demand drafts. We went straight to the bank and got our demand draft draft from RCBC Savings, their U.S. Affiliated bank is Wachovia, NA in New York, NY but the bank manager said it can be deposited anywhere and in any bank in the US.

The issue we're having right now is the processing time we were told that usually when they get a demand draft FROM the U.S. deposited to them, it takes 21 business bank days to clear and they are not sure how long will it take the U.S. banks to clear the demand draft from them. If anybody have tried it and knows how long the processing time is, we would greatly appreciate it as we are still weighing our options.

Another option for us is to get my Mother mail us a cheque from the U.S. but that will take some time too. We could mail the packet to my family as well and they can add the cheque themselves but i'm worried because if we do that, it would change how USCIS will process our application as it will be mailed within the US after mailing it to my family. Will they disregard that it was originally mailed outside the US?

Thank you everyone. This forum helped us a lot on putting together our papers. I wish you all good luck and a happy life. :):

Are you a US citizen or Green Card Holder?

Your mom can mail the cheque to you by FedEx or DHL. It took less than a week in my experience when my husband mailed some docs to me (from LA to Manila) thru FedEx.

I'm a Green Card Holder, currently here in the Philippines for my second degree, but I do maintain a domicile in the US. My case is a bit complicated and couldn't research anything with the same case as ours.

Thanks for your reply. We might just be using the Demand Draft that we acquired. Expecting the US Banks will clear it faster than how they do here in the Philippines.
