Some general questions for the Frankfurt Packet 3 - HELP!!:))

Hello my fellow German applicants,

I am little confused with the instructions which they give you from the Frankfurt Embassy (packet 3).

Hope fully you can answer some of my questions:

1) Do I need to send all the documents in one (e.g. DS-156 etc,; police certificates, affidavit of support)? The instructions say to not send the documents 1-10 to the stated address. I am a bit confused.

2) Do i necessarily have to submit proof of an ongoing relationship again? Or only once it is stated that they require more proof?

3) Is one passport picture enough?

4) What are all the supporting information material which I need to submit with the I-134 form (is W2, Pay Slips, Letter from Employee enough)?

5) Do I need a police certificate if I have lived in the US for more than 1 year? I read somewhere that a US police clearance is not required?!

6) Do I need to submit a certified copy of the birth certificate or the actual birth certificate?

7) Which documents do I need to submit double (original and copy)? Or is one always enough?

I know those are a lot of questions But I dont want to miss anything and the instructions can be sooo confusing.

I believe all most questions are answered in the actual package 3 letter - have you received that? I am waiting for mine still...

You do not need a US police cert, they do their own background checks.

You also need no further evidence of relationship.

And birth cets & police certs are for sure original & copy.

Nope I made a mistake and looked up the older version (2010) instead of the 03/2015 Version.

You are right, that one answers almost all of my questions.

I haven't received it either. Just trying to be prepared so I can send it back right away.

Why are they taking so long with sending it?

I heard from some other Germans which got their Case # early July and still haven't gotten the Packet 3.

Could you also maybe answer me one more question in regards to affidavit of support?

1) If the dates on all the documents is Early April do they consider them outdated? I tried to get them as early as possible but now it is almost the End of July. I am not sure how strict they are on that.

2) Also, they said that they require a bank account statement that shows (1) the date the account was opened (2) the amount deposited during the last year etc. - Is that really all necessary, and were you able to get all the info for your documents?

Just wanna make sure that I am not missing any documents!!

We are not using any bank statements or the like - just a letter of employment and the most recent tax return. As long as you show earnings above the poverty threshold you are good. The I-134 instructions are saying that as well.

I don't think your I-134 is outdated - I am guessing they are fine with 6 months. Double check with the embassy.

And yeah, I got my case number on June 30th - and no package 3.

I have caved and emailed the embassy last night. I'll let you know if/when they reply.

Did you already fill out the DS-160 form and paid the visa fee while you wait on packet 3?

I have filled the DS-160, but not submitted it. I have made an account on traveldocs, but not paid yet.

Wanted to wait for any communication from the embassy. Hope they respond to my email, it has been a few days already.

Update: I did just submit the DS-160 and paid the visa fee...hopefully a little push for the embassy to finally get in touch.

I have had no email reply from them. It has been 3, almost 4, days.

Still no pack 3 either. Been 7 weeks since my NOA-2.

Do the medical, do the DS-160, pay the fee, and then email both addresses every few days until they respond! They will and it will work out. Just make sure everything is in order. We had problem after problem with the post strike, payment system being down, etc, but if you brute force it things finally start moving forward....

Youll get there too, but not before you want to pull your hair out....

Yes, they will email it if you keep emailing them asking where it is. Again, Germany was having a post strike, so no letters were getting through to my fiance. In fact, at the time they sent it he hadnt had mail for over 3 weeks, anything at all.... Im still curious why it was mailed in the first place, for most Germans packet 3 is only an email with a checklist of documents you need to mail back to them. Anyhow, I emailed over and over, asking when it was sent, and they finally scanned it and sent everything to me after about a week and a half of back and forth.

Yes, I took care of everything with the DS160 and payment the day we found out the case was received in Frankfurt. It takes a few days for the payment to clear via online bank transfer, and then by the time they got my documents everything else was already in their system.

Same with the medical, Chris schedules his the day we got his NVC case number and went the following week. Call and schedule if youre going to Munich, they dont take walkins even though their website says they do. They also only do immigration medicals once a week, though their website says daily. Also, each medical office required a different amount of passport photographs, which is the thing you will need aside from your NVC case number. So, if youre going anywhere other than Frankfurt for your medical I would highly recommend calling ahead of time and double checking their procedures.

Email response times have been odd. I would recommend emailing both frankfurtvisainquiries@state.gov and FrankfurtIV@state.gov with duplicate messages even though they tell you not to. Sometimes one responds quickly while the other takes a week and vice versa, but by emailing both I have an answer withing 48 hours from one of them while I wait on the other response to compare notes...

We did everything before ever sending out the packet 3, or even receiving it, and all went very smoothly because everything was in their system ahead of time so when they received the packet 3 they could already see that we had everything in the system; DS 160, payment, medical, etc, and we were able to book the interview for 6 days later....
