Well I finally received my 10yr Green Card, but guess what my card was printed with my Maiden name not married. My first card was issued in my Married name, so guess what I now have to file a I-90 form to change the name. Plus the processing times are already pushing 6 months so I guess I won't have my Green Card corrected for a while.

Hmph just when I thought it was all over for a while.

When I filed my I-751 last September, the NOA and Biometrics letter arrived with my previous name on them, not my married name. I took them both with me to my biometrics appointment and had them update my name while I was there. I needed to show them my marriage certificate and my passport and they made the changes while I was there. Hopefully, my 10 yr. card will come in the right name.

Maybe you could make an InfoPass appointment at your local office to see if they could change it that way.

Good luck.

Thanks, yeah I did exactly the same when I went down to get an extension in my passport. I told the official that I want everything printed in my married name showed them my marriage certificate too. But that doesn't make a difference now seeming my 10yr card came with my maiden name, I still have to file another form. I'm just so annoyed right now, anyone had this type of problem where you had to file the I-90 form.

hi there

so sorry to hear they made that mistake geez you would think with all the information you sending constantly to them they would know which name you want...

although this hasnt happened to me with USCIS yet! when i went to the hospital they took my id and my medical insurance card and she entered my first name wrongly ...amazing i reckon..

i hope you dont have too long to wait till you get it back in your hands....if you have a job would it make much difference to your employer....i hope not ...

take care and good luck on the wait

When you file the I-90 for your name change and assuming it's still pending, would they allow you to travel outside the US? Or you need to get stamp on your passport? Just wanna know.

Well I already have an extension till the end of this year so it should be good. However, I'm wondering if it takes longer than that to receive my correction Green Card will I have to get another extension. I called USCIS and the man told me that my case still had been approved I'm still granted a 10-Year Green Card, so he said I wouldn't need an extension. But that doesn't make much sense seeming you have to have prove with you at all times that your a resident.

Hey mooninlove, I believe if you have an approval letter of your 10yr green card on your person when you travel you should be alright. As you've already been approved for the 10yr Green card, so this wouldn't be a problem.

Natalie,

just wanted to say I'm sorry this has happened and hope you get everything resolved quickly.

Best wishes (F)

Thanks Inlove_tx I hope things move quickly too.

Mine was slightly the same as you experienced (perhaps) in regard with filing 1-90...

Here's my timeline:

Nebraska Serv. Center

12/9/06 - mailed out I-751 package

12/12/06 - they received the package

1/3/07 - we received our package back with the letter saying that I was erroneously admitted/adjusted as a conditional permanent resident, when I should've been admitted/adjusted as a permanent resident without conditions (my correct class of admission is IR1 - where they initially put my class of admission was CR6). Thus, I should file a form I-90 with application reason: my card was issued with incorrect info because of a USCIS administrative error (no fee will be required since this is their error).

1/6/07 - mailed out I-90 packaged to Missouri Serv. Center where I got my Green card

1/10/07 - they received the package

2/15/07 - received the package back from Missouri with the letter stating that they needed two things from me which are: my original (not copy) green card (the one that was issued in error) plus a detailed explanation of what the error is on my green card

2/23/07 - have an infopass appointment with INS local office in Chicago to talk about my case plus ask for temporary residence stamp on my passport while my case is being processed (the letter from Missouri stated that they estimate within 90 days from the date of receipt of our document/evidence to process the new card and I don't have any extension letter from them).

The one thing that my husband (USC) and I don't understand is that, Missouri wants a detailed explanation of what the error on my green card, however, on the initial package that we sent to Missouri, we already included the letter from Nebraska that stated I was erroneously admitted/adjusted as a conditional permanent resident, when I should've been admitted/adjusted as a permanent resident without conditions (my correct class of admission is IR1). What else the detailed explanation do they need from us? Is the letter from Nebraska enough? We thought they (Missouri) should've checked/read the entire package?? That's why tomorrow we will be meeting with the immiggration officer at Chicago local office to sort things out... we'll update again later. Thanks all.

Have they changed the policy that if there's a mistake on your GC (i.e. wrong/mispelled name etc.) when you receive the card that they make you pay for the biometrics all over again?

I never bothered having my original GC changed after they mispelt my christian name (missed out an 'n'). It never affected me getting a driver's license/SSN or work so I never bothered to have it fixed. We didn't have the $70 to spare at the time...

I know you can waive the fee on the GC replacement form, but the biometrics are separate I think.
