Transferring your credit

All US and Canadian banks are separate entities, including TD.
Plus TD do not operate in every state. Some desperate creditors like store based ones usually are fine pulling the credit history from Canada, and they can start building your credit history in US.

When I came to US 5 years ago on work visa, only Art Van furniture and Huntington bank agreed to pull credit history from Canada. Huntington made a condition that I open a checking and a savings account with them.
Anyways that credit card account of Huntington was transfered to Bank of America. So that one is no longer an option. You can still try your luck by walking in to different banks that aren't the big shots who might let you open an account and give you credit card based on Canadian history.

There's an identical topic going on in the Canadian forum right now as well.

Some people will have luck, others will not - I was one of the ones who now matter what I tried, I ended up having to start fresh at the age of 38 which made me pretty annoyed. Wasn't the end of the world though and now my US credit is up to snuff 8 yrs later.

Best of luck
