Why did I get assigned Montreal?

Hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question. We hired a lawyer to help with our petition, we filled out the petition ourselves but apparently the lawyer typed it out again herself. On the original petition I did not state the US embassy in Canada because I obviously was not assigned anything yet. I live in Saskatchewan, and I have read that anything west of Manitoba gets assigned Vancouver. When our lawyer typed out my petition again, she wrote Montreal in the embassy section. I was hoping for Vancouver as it's closer and just more convenient for us (fiancé is in California). I was just wondering if the process is totally random. This lawyer has only done more harm than good, I wish I could go back in time. A few other things have happened with her that are beside the point lol. I wish I just knew VJ wouldve helped us with the process and no need for the lawyer. ANYWAY, I just wanted to know if the assigning of embassy locations is random or if it's because she entered "Montreal" on our petition. If anyone has any guesses, that would be great. I don't want to yell at her for ANOTHER reason, for nothing. lol.

Thanks in advance if you have any input :)

Vancouver doesn't process K-1 applications. They all go through Montreal.

Incorrect. Vancouver DOES process K1 Visas. I do believe you can email the embassy and request a change. Though, Vancouver ONLY does them on Tuesday mornings. So you may be faster in Montreal.

Thanks for the reply, maybe I will look into that. I don't want to slow down the process any more than I have to though!

Thank you

They are apparently at about a 3 month delay for interviews. Not sure where Montreal is at. But I believe if you want Van, just email the Van embassy and request your file be sent there. Good luck!! :)

Also, if you get Vancouver, can you please let me know what interview date you get? My file will be off to the NVC shortly, and I'm trying to figure out how long ore I have to wait. Ugh. Lol.

Thank you! Where can I find that info? (that they have a 3 month delay) I will definitely just stick with Montreal if it is quicker.

Good luck to you too! It's nice being on this side, but it is still testing my patience! Lol!

There was another thread on here that mentioned it, and I work with someone who just went through it. They waited about 3 months. I waited 7 and a half months for my NOA2, so this wait doesn't feel as bad. At least I can finally see the light.

Does your case number start with MTL or VAC?

That is odd. You can definitely request for it to be changed. They may not though. Another couple also had that issue.

It is strange! I definitely blame the lawyer who we've now hopefully ditched. I will have to look into things and decide what to do next. If it's too much of a hassle or going to make the process longer by changing it, I probably won't. Although Vancouver would be much more convenient for us!

You should be able to contact Montreal...state you live in Sask. (Im from Prince Albert) and they should forward it to Vancouver.....Used to happen by mistake fairly often years ago and was never an issue about them sending the pkg to Van. But like NLR stated, they said no to 1 couple--but actually worked in their favor as Mtl for once was speedy, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
