Well if your perception is that I am "the VJ member who regularly smears over 400,000 plus Catholic priests by casting them all as pedophiles or molesters" it's a perception that you must have arrived at without any reference to anything that can be perceived.

However, I do believe there's a difference between commenting on the Catholic Church ( insular, secretive organisation hit by a sex and corruption scandal) and making unsupportive sweeping generalisations about catholics in general.

I have no issue with Catholics, just as I have no issue with Muslims. How about yourself?

Nope, that's not my perception.

I didn't call out any specific member, since In my construct, that would be improper.

As you've asked, no, I don't have any current issues with either Catholics or Muslims. I have however in the past.

I don't know how new of a breed it is. "Former Marine" is what we were taught in recruit training at Parris Island. Maybe it has changed since got out, it seems that more common term now is "Veteran Marine". I refer to myself as a "Former Marine" as do most of the guys I served with.

There is no MCO or regulation concerning how you address someone who has left active service but there are several acceptable terms.

"Ex-Marine" is reserved for those with a less than honorable discharge.

"Former" or "Veteran Marine" is acceptable for anyone who has been honorably discharged.

"Marine" is acceptable and considered complimentary to most of us.

"Retired Marine" is self explanatory as is "Lifer"

And former CMC General Gray wrote that it was acceptable to use the Marines last earned rank at any time after active service.

ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE

ONCE THE TITLE “U.S. MARINE HAS BEEN EARNED, IT IS RETAINED

THERE ARE NO EX-MARINES OR FORMER-MARINES. THERE ARE (1) ACTIVE DUTY MARINES, (2) RETIRED MARINES, (3) RESERVE MARINES, AND (4) MARINE VETERANS. NONETHELESS, ONCE ONE HAS EARNED THE TITLE,

HE REMAINS A MARINE FOR LIFE.

THIS EXCLUDES DESERTERS, SHITBAGS, DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE ETC.

OK then,

It was copied and pasted that way.

Occupation vs rank, makes sense now.

Damn shame 1/2 million of us Marines were led astray.

If only I had joined the Air Force this wouldn't be a problem.

LMAO

Yes, because joining the Air Force obviously is just an occupation while joining the Marines is so much more.

An occupation isn't a title. A rank is a title.

You wouldn't get people saying 'once a postman, you're a postman for life'. Its nonsensical.

For folks who serve in the Corps, it is.

Out of the 4 branches of service( Coast Guard is a part of the Dept of Transportation), everyone who has an idea about our military services knows instinctively that the Marine Corps is by far the most grueling of all of them. This is why there's a more sense of fellowship between most currently and retired/discharged Marines. Doing 20 years in any branch of service is no small feat, but 20 years Marine is something else.

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Ahhhh

You understand

Indeed I do. Unfortunately, you can't claim the same.

And here I thought joining the military was all about service to the country. Silly me...
