What financial information do I need to provide my visitor - and when?

Once she obtains a passport, start her visa application anew. You could assist with application and fees, but that’s it. She does the rest. I suggest you refrain from sending her anything; doing so is unnecessary and could potentially complicate, or worse, hinder her chances.

Just think.. while well-intentioned, the more you assist her with invitation and finances, the more obligated and beholden she appears to you from the visa officer's perspective.

Yes, I understand your points perfectly. However, she has been a student all her life. She has

very little savings. If she shows up in Honolulu with little funds, wouldn't be likely she would be

turned away for that very reason?

Before arriving at HNL, she needs a visa. She'll be asked her duration of stay on the application, and ability to finance meals, incidentals, medical, etc during her stay.

It is unusual for someone with a fresh visa to have an issue.

I remember now.. She did say that she had to prove finances to even get the visa.

Ok - I'm gonna ask what may be a very dense question - so be gentle. Is it ok to use my financial

info during the interview and withold it at POE or are you saying don't provide it period?

I think you still don't understand this. You have nothing, nothing, to do with her visa process (besides helping with form and fee).

You could show $1,000,000 in funds.. but without sufficient documentary evidence on her own, and lacking convincing evidence of her intent to return, chances of her application being successful are rather slim.

See I warned you it may be a dense question.. Bad idea to even inflate her bank account a little???

I may sound like a thick headed dummy but in reality I'm kinda bright. This whole B2 thing is completely

new to me. The idea of her being turned away is chilling.

It's not a bad idea to inflate her bank account a bit, that's exactly what we did- but you have to be careful to do it a bit ahead of an interview and not just couple of days before. It helps if she goes to the bank and gets an original "state of the account" paper with bank stamp on it- not just some printout from online banking

It doesn't guarantee anything though.

As far as the amount goes, they expect a tourist to have approximately $100/day.
