My husband is amazed at the reality of life here in the US. He told me that most people he knew though americans were in great shape, made good money and spent most of their time improving physical appearance. In other words they think that all americans are glamorous like the what they see on american tv. My husband is shocked at the obesity in the United States vs other countries and he comments on it at least once a day. The other thing is quality of family life here - its pretty bad. As a result, we are planning to move to Jordan to raise children together, God Willing. On a brighter note, he sees that there is opportunity here and he does appreciate some of the freedoms we have, such as negotiating salaries and educational opportunities.

Edited to add: He loves Times Square, NYC :)

Hi Maureen,

Well definitely not less than five years from now, but if we are blessed with children, before the elder hits school-age.

where do you live? Are people from Jordan that skinny?

Again maybe it's where you are living now. The US is a BIG place and there's so many awesome locations to raise a family. Unless I'm totally missing something here. I love my little town, though it's wicked expensive. The kids are getting a great education and the town really looks out for one another.

Maybe he'll like it once he's here a bit longer.

When can we go back to the Mall?

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I live right outside of NYC. NYC is def in the top 3 in most $$$ places to live. However, with my career, this is where the work is and to live here we must both work. Personally for myself, I wanted to live overseas for quite a while and I don't want to raise another child here.

His first thoughts were just shocked to see an obese person...he stared like "why" ????

I explained foods here are fatty, combined with drive thru everything etc, no exercise, genetics etc...

His second thoughts were "what's that" when he saw squirrels for the first time.

And the funniest thing was the garbage disposal. His feet jumped off the ground when I turned it on...not a

popular appliance over there but it was HILARIOUS!

Seriously...your husbands have never seen fat ppl? There were plenty of fat ppl in Egypt. I can't imagine that Morocco and Jordan don't have fat ppl, too. Not to be rude or anything but plenty of MENA men have married obese women. I can't believe that word hasn't gotten around about this phenomenon.

he cant believe how nice people act.. We were driving out of the masjid and this man waved Hello at my husband.. but he just stared at him... I was like "Honey.. just wave and say Hi.."

" I dont know this man.. "

"Well.. he is Muslim. The muslims here are very friendly to eachother.. cause we are a small amount and we have to stick together"

"Oh.. okay.. " he was very happy that people were this friendly

And then today.. he said "the tempo in america is very fast" meaning we are very fast paced..

omg stop these threads are killing me today!!!!!! maybe it's the stress but i'm laughing so hard right now!!!!

Yeah I don't get that either. I saw more obese women in Egypt then I've ever seen concentrated in one place in the US. Seriously the women I work with here for the most part are toothpicks!!! And when I was working at BU it was worse! You'd think they were all anorexic!

I will say though that a friend of mine who is Greek says that each year when she goes to visit her Aunts in Greece they comment on her weight, and this girl is like 5'4" and probably 130 soaking wet, so maybe there are just all thin people in Morocco and Jordan and Greece and all the fat people flee to Egypt for the koshari.
