Good morning,

My husband and I have a bit of a connumdrum. We filed our I-751 packet late in the window. So now my husband's driver's license expired yesterday (4/29/2015) and we don't have an NOA1 extenstion letter to take to DMV and renew it (we live in Virginia).

However, I do have tracking information that shows that his packet arrived and was signed as received on November 20th.

Is there some way that USCIS could give us some document or stamp in his passport that could serve to renew his license? Or must we just wait until the extension letter arrives?

You didn't receive it or you lost it? Completely different things, if you didn't receive it, you need to contact them for a non-delivered receipt. Returned mail is not good.

You can schedule infopass to ask for i-551 stamp.

You didn't receive it or you lost it? Completely different things, if you didn't receive it, you need to contact them for a non-delivered receipt. Returned mail is not good.

You can schedule infopass to ask for i-551 stamp.

We didn't receive a receipt either. But I was actually referring to the NOA1 extension Letter. We haven't lost anything, thankfully.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, we can schedule an infopass appointment to get an I-551 stamp? Should we just bring proof that the package was delivered (I printed out the tracking information online since we never received the receipt)

Receipt is the extension letter NOA1. Did you receive biometrics letter? If you didn't receive anything at all, you are in serious problem now. Did your payment got cashed?

To get the stamp, you need to bring your biometrics appointment along with some ID (driver license, passport...) to your infopass. Good luck.

It's worth checking your state's D/L laws. I face a similar problem as you (filed but no extension letter yet) but here in NC there's a 30 day grace period where if you're pulled over the officer may ticket you for driving on an expired license, but if you renew your license within 30 days and show that to the court the fine will be waived. It's not ideal, but it's something at least.

We filed later within the 90 period, so it's quite normal that the NOA1 has not arrived yet. I'm not panicked about that, nor should I be. I'm simply asking If there is a way to get my husband a DL in the interim.
