Presenting the 10 most fun, chill-inducing proposals of 2006. With stories as great as these, how could the bride have said anything but, "yes"?

Treat, No Trick

Every year, Eric and I carve jack-o'-lanterns on my birthday because it's right before Halloween. I always do the dirty work and he, the trained artist, does the creative part. You can imagine my surprise when, after cutting the top out of the pumpkin, I reached in to pull out the seeds and got a little velvet ring box too! (He put the ring box in a Ziploc bag to keep it from getting dirty.) He asked, "Will you be my wife?" I said "yes," of course.

String Theory

I was at my future in-law's house, helping set up for a party, when my boyfriend, Sean, returned from a last-minute run to the grocery store empty-handed and said he had left his wallet at my house. We rushed back to my house, and I ran inside to grab it while he kept the car running (his idea). Inside, instead of the wallet, I found a note on a piece of string detailing his memories of when we first met. The string connected to another note, then another, each with wonderful memories that he had of us falling in love. The last note told me about the moment that he realized that the only way to be happy was to marry me...I followed the string out to the back deck. Outside, Sean was on one knee waiting to propose.

Magic Moment

We were on vacation in the Florida Keys and went to see some street performers. A magician said, "You are about to witness something that you will only see here in this special place." Then he said, "Young man, please step forward." I thought Bryan was going to do a silly trick like balancing quarters on his elbow and catching them all at once -- he loves that trick. Bryan then said, "I am about to make the prettiest girl in the crowd say 'yes' to marrying me right now."

Superhero Powers

We went to see Superman Returns in IMAX with our friends and family. Right before the movie started, Marc disappeared and still hadn't come back when the usher was reading off the house rules. As she finished her announcements, she said that a guy named Marc had something he wanted to say. My boyfriend came running out dressed up like Superman and used the mic to ask me to stand up because he, my "superhero sidekick," had something to ask me. He ran over to me and got down on one knee to propose as everyone cheered. I was laughing and crying all at once. Now that "Man of Steel" is my fiancé!

Love Boat

As our cruise ship left New York Harbor, we went outside to see the sights and Randy spotted the tug boat that he works on in the distance. He literally dragged me running down the side of the cruise ship so that he could shout to his shipmates. I looked down at the tug boat and saw a banner draped on the side that read, "Aimee, Will U Marry Me?" The cruise ship made an announcement for all the passengers to look on the starboard side and as the crowd circled around us Randy got down on one knee with my beautiful ring. It was unbelievable!

Seeing Things

We had been talking about both getting contact lenses. Richard made an appointment for us to go to the optometrist where I went through the usual precursory exams before heading into the doctor's office. After they tested my visual acuity, I was told I had one more chart to read. The assistant put it up on the wall and I started to read the letters from the top "W-I-L-L-Y-O-U-M ...that's as far as I got before realizing what it said and broke down into tears of amazement. My wonderful fiancé had gone to a printer and had an actual eye chart made up with the proposal.

Twisting Wedding Tradition

We were attending his cousin's wedding reception. Everything was going great until the dreaded bouquet toss. It ended up going to the woman in front of me who then turned around and tossed it to me. Suddenly, Sammy was there next to me. At that very moment, he got down on his knee!

Fair Game

Keenan's family always hosts two Easter egg hunts, one for big "kids" and one for little kids. After the hunt was over, we all gathered back in the house to open our eggs when I came across this really big purple egg that had another green egg in it with another smaller blue egg in it. I thought it was pretty cute when I opened up the blue egg and it had a little scroll nestled in it. As I began to unroll it, the room got very quiet and I was reading, "Kelsey, will you marry me?" I began shaking and saying "Oh my goodness" over and over again. I looked over and saw Keenan on his knee beside me with a little black box in his hand.

Star Sighting

We were taking a scenic drive up to a spot off the main road, far from city lights, where we could really see the stars. Andrew had snuck my telescope in the car with us, and asked me to wait patiently for him to set it up at just the right star. He asked me to look into the lens and tell him what I saw. I didn't see anything in the telescope. He asked me to wait and told me to look again, but this time he lit a lighter towards the end of the barrel, upon which he had written the words "Will You Marry Me?" on a clear piece of tape that covered the end of the lens. In total shock and surprise, I pulled away from the telescope and Andrew was down on one knee and took my hand. I, ecstatic and crying, replied "yes!"

Love on the Links

Josh and I went golfing one holiday weekend. When we got to the putting green of the twelfth hole, Josh putted his ball over to where I was standing holding the flag. He purposely missed and told me to go ahead and pick up the ball to make sure it was his. When I looked down at the ball he had written, "Will You Marry Me" on it. As soon as I turned around he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand proposing. I was completely surprised and had no idea that he had even been thinking about it.
