HELP-- Just got K1 Visa, but Envelope is Torn

My fiancee just received her K-1 visa package from 2GO. She has not yet opened the plastic outer envelope, but noticed through the plastic that the yellow envelope is torn about 3-4 inches along the seam. It's like someone en route dropped the package, causing it to split.

We are frantic because she is booked to fly out of Manila on April 9. Who do we call? Will they let her go back to the embassy before her flight so they can reseal the envelope? I've attached a couple of pictures.post-202870-0-16494100-1427457879_thumb.jpgpost-202870-0-36450000-1427457880_thumb.jpg

You'll be ok. As long as the outer plastic is not damaged or opened. This topic as been covered extensively. Try a search.

Hi, this notice came in with my visa packet.

In it, the plastic pouch can be opened to retrieve your passport but the yellow envelope must not be torn. Based on my packet. :)

Yes, that's why we are worried. The yellow envelope is torn inside the plastic. I'm wondering if I should send my fiancée to the embassy so they can reseal it

Yes, perhaps you can call the embassy first, describe how big the tear is and ask if it needs re-sealing. Otherwise, I hope US customs would accept it. :)

Best contact the embassy and get the envelope replaced, that tear is big. You do not want issues at POE.

How will she get her passport without opening the plastic bag?

Given that her flight to Los Angeles departs on April 9, and she's arriving in Manila on April 7, how likely is it that the embassy will allow her to come in and have the envelope replaced as she waits?

You need to contact the embassy about this, they will instruct you on how to handle this.

To arrive at POE with a big tear in the DO NOT OPEN envelope can result in being turned away at POE and sent back to the Philippines.

That's not the usual "envelope chopped off at the corner" tear. You or the fiance need to call the Embassy first thing Monday morning and explain the timeline you guys are working with. Hopefully they can accommodate you guys without any need for rebooking the international trip or making an extra excursion to Manila.

I just spoke to the US embassy Manila on the phone. Normally, they would require her to give the package back to 2GO to send back to Manila, then wait for its return. However, when I explained that she already has her ticket to the US, they said that she should come to the embassy anytime Monday thru Thursday, between 10:00 AM and 12 noon to Window 38, and bring a copy of her flight confirmation, and then they will reseal (or replace?) the envelope as she waits.

Since she will have a couple of days in Manila before her flight to the US, I think we will do this option just to avoid any questions at the POE.
