It's that time of the year again just wondering if any one else here sends valentines care packages for your love ones. Do you ever worry if the chocolate will melt by the time it arrives. What type of things do send for that special day? Any one else plan web cam dates and have dinner and drinks over the cam? I know it sounds corny but its the closest thing we can do for a date on valentines day. We try to cook the same thing so that we feel like we are sharing the meal. LOL.

2 years ago the most terrible thing happened when I sent my hubby a care pacakge. Some good for nothing postall service ####### opened up the package stole all of the choclate inside and that person also had the never to open up the big herseys kiss and took a bite off the top and wraped it back up and put it back in the box. I was so upste and pissed off. I felt violated that some ### wipe went through our personal stuff and stole it, and looked at all our pics and the things that I had written. I sent my husband about 50 types of chocolate sweets.....he never got any of them except for the half eatten chocolate kiss they decided to put back in the box. I was so MAD. I'm so weary about sending stuff now beacuse I keep thinking they will do the same. I was just lucky that he even got something at all. My hubby was just happy that he at least got the valentine card that I made for him along with some pics. I wonder who is not to trust the postal service here in the US or the ones in the UK. Has any one else had any issues with postal service like this? Any ways let me leave the bad stuff aside. What do you do special for Valentines day?

That's TERRIBLE! :( I've sent a 5.00 bill in a card once to my ex husband and it never got there. It also had some pictures in it as well. that made me pretty mad.

This year, maybe I can convince him of the same idea again but I will be there on the 1st anyway so we have about 5 weeks to do something :D Our i year anneversary was in January so we have to make up for that as well

I sent off a big box of different kinds of chocolates because he is a chocoholic like me... :) I included a bag of green M&Ms but when I call him on V-day I'll tell him he's gotta save those for three months until I'm there because everybody knows what you want to do after eating them... ;) I also sent him a nice mushy valentine's card and some photos... They don't celebrate Valentine's Day over there so it's all new to him - I guess if I tell him it's 'worship your fiancee day' he'll believe me...

Wow that is really awful –a half eaten choco kiss! :o I can't imagine what type of monster would do that. Deathbydalbhat you are impressive – how did you send the parcel?

As for me, never and never will I send a package to India – it would be exactly like making a donation to an impoverished postman thief. My parents sent me a small package of nuts twice while I was in India – never received it. And a cheap digital watch once – nada - the letter arrived with an empty packaging but no watch inside. Sending packages to India are guaranteed not to arrive, in my humble experience. I just wonder how they deliver any post at all, they must spend all their days opening everything! Even my letters arrive opened and glued together again with that black Indian liquid glue. No shame. I am worried about sending all the precious original docs to my SO – hopefully an express FedEX or DHL will not let me down. :(

I guess if I tell him it's 'worship your fiancee day' he'll believe me...

 Too late for me - my guy says Valentine's Day is well known and celebrated by the educated masses in the bigger cities in India...

One time my fiancé sent me a package and the postal workers opened it too!! :ranting: I told him what happened and we agreed that we won't send that kind of stuff anymore. He sent me Dutch coffee (I love it) and some sweets and they opened and went thru pretty much everything!!! It was so sad that I had to throw the stuff away (because you never know who the heck put their dirty hands there, ewww) after he sent it to me with so much love :(

They spolied pretty bad for us both. So no more sweets via mail...

As far as packages to India.. I have sent a few... first time i sent a dig camera.. over quoted the insuance value amount and it didnt equal the value i stated of the package.. that caused a problem at pickup causing an extra $100 fee... basically the package was held until the amount was paid.. augh stating 50% of the package value needed to be paid.. I learned fast make sure everything is equal in value.. insurance and values . no differences.. and if i have 6 items in the box six things must be put on the sheet..

I have sent things via Fed-X, UPS, DHL, and International US Postal.

FedX overall was best. and time for delivery from Oregon to Gujarat.. 3 days avg.

DHL best for documents. ..

I made a error once in sending via INTERNATIONAL POSTAL USP... thought I'd give it a try..

hahah a 10day delivery gaurentee.. took... 45 days.... Jan and I both gave up hope for the package arriving.. but.. it eventually did... was just simple kids things.. and some herbal medicines.. I dont think anyone would have really wanted them other than the kids and grandma.. hahaha.. We both were suprised that all the items were there upon delivery.

As far as this Valentines day... I finally decided... hey.. this year.. I WANT MY FLOWERS ...

sooooo

I decided.. the easiest way .. would be.. I went down to COSTCO.. with my phone cam..

took pictures of the roses that they have there.. I got home.. loaded the pics on the pc... got Jan online.. and said. honey.. guess what you are getting me for Valentines day... hehehe.

You are getting me some beautiful flowers... but the only thing is. .you need to pick the ones you want me to have..

. 0210071311a.jpg

here is what he chose... I will get them tuesday.. and take them to the office. wednesday.. .. where my Fax letter will be awaiting me from my baby..heheh,... better I get what I wish even tho hes not here.. ..

We actually agreed to not send each other anything this year to save money. He cheated, and my package arrived last week. I got: fingerless gloves for work, fennel biscotti, a t-shirt and a card I'm not allowed to open until Wednesday. He's getting an extra special romantic dinner for just the 2 of us during his March visit as a belated gift.

I have sent him a couple of packages by FedEx but it's $$$$... he now has a GPO box so I send him small inexpensive things by express mail - he says he has a 'daai' at the post office so if I don't send him anything expensive to not worry.. i sent him a fairly large package a couple of weeks ago with my G325As and letter of intent for him to sign and everything got there... haven't had bad luck yet(knock on wood) but yes K says stuff gets stolen very frequently... :(

We never had anything opened either. Sometimes the packages didnt come in the best shape, but the contents were fine.

I got him a cheesy t-shirt that has a 4 leaf clover on it that says 'Let's get ready to stumble'

And a card

Cheesy gift, but whaddya get the guy who's got everything and needs to sell it to get here? lol No major mailings of any kind are going TO the UK. Plus, I know he'll absolutely love the cheesy shirt anyways.

I did a search on the internet and found a site that sent a package of choclates, teddy bear, and 24 red roses for $42. The website was in her home town so did not have to worry about the postal service.

I had specifically asked them to deliver it on the 14th. My wife called me today to thank me for the choclates and the teddy bear.. it was delivered 2 days early.. and she's already eaten the choclates!

She hasn't received the roses yet, so I hope it will be delivered on the day.

Every time I send chocolates to the UK they melt. Every. Single. Time. Dead of winter, or mid summer, large box of choccies, or tiny peanut butter chocolate heart, doesn't matter. Always melts. He doesn't mind normally, but his mum has thrown out a big box of them before because they didnt look good due to the melting, I think.

Somehow they never melt when he sends any to ME. Go figure.

I send a valentines package pretty much every year. Chocolate brownies tend to ship better than straight up chocolate, but they're heavier. He loves the little debbie ones with icing on, so sometimes I send a box of those. Toss in a card and a few other small trinkets (a little stuffed monkey and a shirt and game this year, for example), and that's the norm for us.

I think I gave up on usps. FedEx is the only way to go when shipping chocolate to the UK. He gets everthing in great shape when I ship with FedEx. USPS takes for ever even after paying he 40 dls the packages still take over 2 weeks to arrive. I gave up on that and decided to coff over the extra 20 to send things a more relliable way and it takes 2 -3 days tops to get there. Its weird that I pay more for shipping than the acutal worth of the contents. They are more like sentimental things plus its always nice to send lovey dovey stuff to your loved one even if its cheesey.
