How Long Is NOA 2 Good For?

Received NOA 2 Jan. 3, 2015.

Passed medical, all OK.

Went to interview March 23, 2015.

Interview was passed, BUT, passport was returned to fiance, due to she had been in Japan, for several months, and the Officer said she needed a ""police certificate"" from Japan, before her interview could be completed, and the visa installed in her passport.

She was told, to send the ""police cert."" with her passport, back to the embassy, and she would have her visa in 7-8 days. She was given a special 2GO envelope to send the ""police cert."" and passport back to embassy.

She is sending the ""form from the embassy"" requesting the ""police cert."" two 2 X 2 pictures, and her finger prints at the Japanese Embassy in Cebu today.

Question 1. How long is the NOA 2 good for, and will she have to ask for some type of extension, and from who does she request this extension, as we have been told it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months for the ""Japanese Embassy""' police cert.??? As it seems she will be at least 4-6 months until she can fly to the USA.

Question 2. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get this ""police cert."" (report) from the Japanese Embassy.,.,. and back to Cebu, Philippines??????

Please, any comments, and comments are really appreciated. Really going through a bad time right now,.,,.,.,thought she was ready to come to the USA.,..,.,now have no idea what to expect..,.,.,.,PLEASE.,.,.,.,help!

As long as a case is open, the consulates/embassies automatically extend an I-129F petition's validity in 4-month increments for (if memory serves) up to a year. If obtaining the police certificate takes a while, she should simply stay in touch with the Immigrant Visa unit to let them know that she's on it.

If you're nervous about the Japanese certificate, perhaps contact that embassy to inquire about the usual time frame.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks, T Bone, as you know, my situation is settled and fine here in the US. I ""owe"" him big time!

This is for the guy that took me to the Phils., where I found my wonderful wife.

He has the worst luck in the world.,,..,.thought she was ready to travel, and now "waiting on the Japanese" how great!

Again, thanks a ""ton!"" I will e mail the Japanese embassy in Cebu, and Japan.

Again, thanks TBone, I will post the progress on the K-1 visa Filipino thread, as I gain info.

I have the Japanese Embassy phone number for ""visas"" may not be right, to start with, but I will get an answer and post it for our members, that get caught up in such a ridiculous, thing as this. Visited Janpan a few months with sisters, now needs police clearance.,..,.,.,MY god .,.,help us how much more stupid can they get!

Will keep you up-dated bud, I will call them tomorrow.

HOW do I keep contact with the K-1 visa in Manila, to let them know what is going on.?? E Mail.,.,.. telephone? Just not sure, this is such a shock!

The requirement for the certificate is so fresh that I wouldn't worry about Manila right now. If the timing approaches 4 months, think about it then.
