Hey guys,

I am an American living in The Netherlands with my dutch husband. I have been living here for 6 years. I now want to move back to the states and bring my dutch husband. We have already started the visa process and after sending all the I-864 paperwork in and waiting 60 days I just got an email from them stating they need from me proof of US domicile.

I have no clue what they mean. I live here in Europe and don't have a home or bank account in America. WHAT DO I DO? I'm kinda sad and freaking out cause I didn't think we were gonna get an email like this from them (NVC).

I thought we were on to the next stage, the interview. So frustrating.

And they (NVC) aren't accepting phone calls anymore so I can't ask for help or explanation.

Can anyone on here help me please.

Thanks in advance!

folksen in canada have this problem, and have a long, 4 year topic on what to do about it.

check out the Canada sub-forum, it's a pinned topic there.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I looked at that but she did have a bank account and proof of going to school there. I don't have that.

Typically you would have to move to the US ahead of your partner and establish your domicile by getting a place to stay, a bank account, filing taxes (which you should be dong anyway), finding a job locally, etc. Here is another link with more info: http://aboutusvisas.com/how-to-prove-intent-to-domicile-in-the-us/

There are many people living abroad that want to move back to the states with their foreign spouse without moving back alone first. I can't just up and leave by myself unfortunately. We have to travel together with lots of luggage and our 2 large dogs and 2 cats. Neither one of us can do that alone.I have been living here abroad for 6 years. Anyone any suggestion on how I can show them I truly am moving back with my husband when he gets his visa?

there are 2 paths on domicile, adjudicated for prove-up on domicile, on interview day:

1. proof of usa domicile (which you don't have at the moment) or

2. proof of steps taken to re-establish usa domicile.

click the link below, there's a section on domicile, a letter to prep and show the evidences of the things you are doing for path #2. it also covers path #1, so be wary, don't confuse the two when reading that sample cover letter.
