Not only is it needed... it is required.

Once you are finished with the DOT treatments for TB you or SLEC will schedule a new interview day.

hi! Is there anyone of you had undergone tb treatment in slec? There are many here that some point have goine through the TB 6 month treatment. I am sure they will let you know more about the process. You may want to use the SEARCH feature in the upper right hand corner and type in "TB Treatment" and you will see lots of experiences.

Is it really needed to take the medicine in the slec for 6months? Yes it is a requirement. There is no way around this protocol.

And pay for another 245$ for medical? If negative after 60 days then no additional fee. If positive then additional 11,025 php ($245.00) to redo medical after finishing DOT.

How long usually need to wait for us to proceed to the interview process? After the six month treatment then you can reschedule your interview. The rescheduling of the interview depends on what is open on USEM appointment schedule. Good guide is this process is going to take from 7 to 10 months from treatment to interview approximately. Your mileage will vary.

Thanks in advance

Having the culture done doesn't necessarily mean you'll progress to the treatment phase.

Basically it goes like this:

1) Chest Xray, if clear you're good/done. If there's any suspicious findings (even if you're asymptomatic) you go to

2) Sputum, both rapid and culture. Rapid/initial is positive, you start treatment. If rapid is negative, you wait 2 months for the culture result. Meaning that they take the sputum collection and grow it in a medium that favors the growth of TB bacteria if present. It can take up to 6-8 weeks for TB to grow/appear. That's why if it show up at any time, you start treatment. If not, that's where you see people getting approved for immunizations after the cultures come back negative.

3) If any of the sputum collections show positive, then it's 6 months of DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-Course)

TB can kill you if it's not treated. All other concerns should be secondary to your health.

Once you are given the all clear by SLEC, you'll able to schedule the visa interview.

Yes, my fiancée went through DOT recently. You can read our steps in my timeline. You can discuss options with the SLEC doctor, but the shortest course of action is to complete the treatment at SLEC. It turns out to be 8 months or so total. The first month or two is waiting for the sputum to go positive, then 6 months of tablets (130 doses) on weekdays only, then one month wait after the tablets waiting on the final sputum test to come back negative. Then SLEC wants 10 more days wait so they can process the TB treatment paperwork before the next medical.

Yes, we paid an additional $245 at the "re-medical"

We rescheduled her interview at the USEM after her treatment, SLEC did not.

So after the final sputum culture results are released, there is a ten day wait until you can have the "re-medical?" I've also heard that even when the "re-medical" is finished, there is ANOTHER two week wait to receive the immunizations! Is that true?

I can't answer you directly as I have very little knowledge on the DOT process, but having said that I can point you in a direction that may help you with your questions. See this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/542040-repeat-medical-in-st-lukes-after-completion-of-dot/page-2
