SSN problems. Taking forever!

HI all

I applied for my SSN on the 9th January, there was a problem and they needed to copy my documents and send them to DHS. After 3 weeks I called the social security office to check on my card. She said there was nothing she could tell me and to wait the 4 weeks that it was stated it would take. After the 4 weeks, still nothing. I called again, they told me that it was still being reviewed and to wait a little longer, I told her how important it was, and she replied that I just have to wait. On the 23rd February, I called again to the local office, and she said that the DHS needed more documents, I told her that copies were taken on the 9th January, and she claimed that the person dealing with me did not copy all that was needed and that I would need to come back to get my documents copied to send to DHS. Me and my wife went the next day to the office and the woman looked at my stuff on the computer, clicked next a few times, and said that it has gone through and that my card would be here in up to 2 weeks. I asked her if that was really true as I was told I needed documents send to DHS and that she made copies of nothing, She assured me that it was fine.

Even though she said it was fine, and that 2 other employees were watching over her and that they gave me a letter saying I will receive my card in 2 weeks, I am worried that something is not right. My I-94 will expire on 13th March, and I am also worried that there will be an issue, and my I-94 will expire before I can resolve it.

I would appreciate any advice,

Thanks

I had pretty much the same experience. First they told me I couldn't apply for the SSN, then when I said, yes I can they took my documents. It went for a security check as it does and weeks later nothing. Then they asked me for my 1.94, it wasn't in my passport, turns out it is now done electronically and once they had I got my card. Took about 6 weeks, so perhaps that is what has been holding it up for you.

My wife had the same problem..... it took roughly 5 almost 6 weeks for DHS to check all of her Documents and it came in the mail just about on the 6th week. Also your application was dated before your I-94 expires and that is the date that they go by so don't worry about that
