Thanks LoveMyTico for your comment. What you said is completely right and that what I thought at the beginning but the thing that I did not understand why did they request my passport then returned it to me with no visa stamp then requested it again within one week? Could they do it again and return my passport with no visa?

Thanks aroyd28.

The CO had asked the passport to be sent later upon request, so the passport is still in my possession pending request by the Embassy.

What do you think about the update dates, as outlined above, of my case? I know there is a spaced intervals in date updating my case :-(

It is really strange to hear that they did not request ur passport while there has been an update on ur ceac date. In this case you should expect a call at anytime in the next few days. Is this ur first time to apply for US visa? have u been there before?

Cheers

They made a mistake..they told you that. The embassy in Costa Rica told us that they are not allowed to keep your passport unless they are going to issue the visa. Its just a policy. Your embassy made a mistake. Years ago they used to keep the passport. Now they give it back until they are ready. Its nothing more than that. I doubt they would make the same mistake twice. I would bet you'll be finished soon. Don't over analyze.. it will make you crazy

Sometimes embasdy keep passport long time without issued the visa.

I have red here a lot of stoies where they keep the passport long time and then send back without visa.

And ask for it again.

In my case they approved me and keep my passport for 5 months and put me in ap, and after 5 ,months the sent me back the passport without visa.

Now they asked for passport again , i sent on january 22 and they have the passport without anu update yet.

So they keep passport.

The consulate told us they aren't supposed to keep the passport. We specifically asked. When we had our interview, they returned it to us because we had to file the waiver. They refused to keep it . Theysaid they would ask for it when they needed to issue the visa. When the waiver was approved, they sent an instruction letter and asked for the passport.

Don't worry, they don't need the old passport to issue the visa.

Updates do mean they are working on your case but you can get many updates before they make a decision on your case. My husband was in AP 2 years and I kept a record of his updates. I had 2 full pages of updates. We went through the embassy in Pakistan which is famous for long AP's. The embassy in Pakistan is also known for keeping passports for years.

Many things depend on what embassy you are working with. The bottom line is that regular updates are a good thing.
