CEAC Status Updated Date

Hi VJ

My question in regards to the CEAC status updated date. I am from Iraq and have applied for a special immigrant visa (SIV). My visa interview was 18 December 2014 and as normal, I have been put under AP since then. The first update on CEAC was the date following my interview 19 December 2014.

Another change in "Status Updated Date" was two days ago 20 February 2015 in USA time.

First, is this a good indication with bearing in mind there was no email or call made to either NVC or the Embassy?

Second, what does the change in CEAC updated date mean?

Friends of mine have a number of changes, but nothing happened in relation to the visa issuance.

Thanks

It means they are working on something in your case. Its a good thing. Hopefully you'll hear something soon.

They update the date everytimr that they get an e-mail asking for the case.

If you have e-mailed them so they update the case.

If you havent called or e-mailed then that mean that someone touched your case.

A friend of mine works for the fraud dept at the DOS. I asked her about updates. She said the only way the date changes is if someone adds or updates your file. It does not change if someone is just viewing your case. It could be the USCIS is communicating with the DOS about your case. I used to stalk the ceac a thousand times a day. Ours updated daily there for a while. It was comforting to know somebody was actually working on our case.

I have been into the same situation but mine is little bit different.

Case created: late 2013. After more than one year embassy requested my passport in 22 January 2015.

First date update: 28/1/2015

Second date update: 29/1/2015

Then they returend my passport while the status still shows admin processing and they said the request of my passport was made by mistake. One week later they requested my passport again and now the case date updated for the third time in 24/2/2015 but still shows AP.

Im not sure if this is a good indication. As far as I know date update means they are updating ur file and confirming it with DHS but the question is: Does this really mean that they are on the final procedures of issuing a visa?

Hi aroyd28,

Let me first ask you where did you lodge your application at?

As long as the Embassy has requested your passport (after a long wait time in AP), then this a really good sign! A friend of mine has been into the same scenario and the visa was issued after a few days upon the submission of the passport.

Can you throw some light onto my case updates:

Interview date: 18 Dec 2014

First Update: 18 Dec 2014 (Administrative Processing)

Second Update: 19 Dec 2014 (Administrative Processing)

Third Update: 20 Feb 2015 (Administrative Processing)

That's it ???

Thanks

The application was submitted in the US consulate in one of the gulf country.

As far as I know, requesting passport after long time and updating the date even though it shows AP is definitely a good sign and is only a matter of time before CEAC changes to "issued" .Unfortunately, they returned my passport with no visa stamp and I was so disappointed and confused by this step which they explained later on in their reply as a mistake. Now they requested it again and to be honest I have no explaination for what is going on in my case,

As for u did they request your passport later on or they kept it since the interview date?

The consulate is not allowed to ask for your passport and keep it unless they intend to issue your visa. If they put your file in AP, they are supposed to give it back. Since they asked for it again, you should be getting issued soon..it is normal for your status to go from ready to AP to issued. The date changes are when somebody updates your file. Its not a bad thing so just relax. You're almost there

Thanks aroyd28.

The CO had asked the passport to be sent later upon request, so the passport is still in my possession pending request by the Embassy.

What do you think about the update dates, as outlined above, of my case? I know there is a spaced intervals in date updating my case :-(

Cheers

They communicate with the different government agencies. I know they do another background check and have t get approval from Washington DC before they can issue the visa. That takes 24-48 hours. But it depends on your embassy. I'm sure when the file goes from one desk to another, the employee probably has to sign in. That's probably why it updates frequently
