FYI, I'm speaking from personal experience as a Dual US-PHL Citizen myself.

As a foreigner you can own real property like a condo unit, but actual Titled Land, you need to be a PHL Citizen. Whether you can use a Birth Certificate despite having legally relinquished your PHL Citizenship is a gray area. For legal matters, I've only had to show a BC and PHL Passport. Only had to show my Certificate of Citizenship (or whatever it's called, you get it when you become a Dual) a couple times, mostly when renewing my PHL Passport. But I've never bought land or real estate so far.

Perfect, nice to here from someone who has personal experience thank you!

This has been great. Thank you to everyone to contributed...I hope this helps another.

Only real extras about having Dual Citizenship are staying for more than a year without a visa and the ability to own land. (Semper Aye)

Yes, at Naturalization you relinquish previous allegiances but the PHL Law allows to retain/regain PHL Citizenship/Dual Citizenship with a simple oath/signature in which you don't relinquish US Citizenship. (Thomas & Cleofe)

Perfect. But, are you implying that since my wife will have a US passport upon arrival in the Philippines, that she and I will only be able to stay for one year according to Filipino law unless we have her apply for dual citizenship? Or are you saying that I could stay for more then one year if she was a dual citizen?

Dual citizenship of your wife will avail you to enjoy the balikbayan privilege - which allows you to stay for one year without obtaining a visa (one day short in reality). To stay longer you would need to apply for a visa, but it is much simpler to do a flight to Hong Kong and back with your wife and get a new balikbayan stamp for another year.

I am currently in the Phils, to get the stamp my wife needed to be with me in the foreigner line, show her Philippines passport and then they gave me the BB stamp in my passport. Customs did not ask to see our marriage license or any such thing; simple process.

YOU can stay up to one year on a BB visa if you arrive WITH her and get the stamp in your passport based on her BB status. If she only has US passport, then she (and you) will get the 30-day visa automatically, but will have to apply to stay past 30 days.

When Chinook and I go to the Philippines, Chinook uses only her U.S. passport. The officer automatically stamps both of our passports for a one-year stay.

The customs officer simply looks at the biographical page of Chinook's passport to see that her country of birth is the Philippines.

SemperAye, disregard my post about Pinay wife using US passport. See Tahoma's post above. I was told some wrong info, sorry to have passed it along. What he said makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the correction, Tahoma! Someone told me wrong...

FYI. This happened to not be true. They look at her country of birth on the US passport and grant a 1 year balikbayan visa for both of us. After dual citizenship is granted, they will re-stamp, and she can stay forever.

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you clarify?
