Wrong name on the 10 year Green Card

Hey guys,

I have been reading this forum for a while now, and it has proved to be very helpful in the past, and now I have a question as well.

I have been approved for removal of conditions in the last couple of weeks, and just received my green card. However the first and last name on the card are switched. They are spelled correctly, it is just where it says surname, it is my first name, and where it says given name it is my last name. After digging around in my paperwork, it appears that all the papers that pertain to ROC (NOA, biometrics appointment, etc.) that I have received have the name switched.

I have called the customer service for USCIS and the lady on the phone told me that I need to file form I-90, and that if this is the fault of USCIS, then they will replace the card for free. If on the other hand this is my fault, then the fee for card replacement will be $450.

I guess my question is how big of an issue is this? I will be applying for citizenship this July, and I am just not sure if it was their mistake, or if I accidentally switched the names around on the application, and therefore I am not sure if I will have to pay the fee, nor do I want to gamble with that amount of money so close to having to apply for citizenship. As far as I know, it does not get in the way of my work, and I am only planning on traveling once in June. If anyone has any advice on this issue, please let me know.

I am still waiting for my card.. I am lil bit worried about that situation too. But I think you need to change your green card first then.. apply citizenship i think.. i cant make sure so i think it would be better to get info pass appointment and talk to officer with that case..

and I know people said that replace green card ( even if they was wrong) it takes around 9 months.. ( but I think 5 to 7 months)

If you filled out the paperwork correctly, then the card not being correct is the fault of USCIS. File the I-90 with no fee to get a replacement.

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
