Using your husband's surname is not mandatory although it is good proof of bonafide marriage. It will work in your favor because the GC will be issued in your married name as well as SS, state ID and driver's license.

Your choice though. ;)

We were not properly informed at the point of filing application, he used my maiden name, my passport is in my maiden name as well, i still have yrs before it expires. As for bonafide marriage, we have tons and tons of things to show for it. Not preplanned but as a result of relating with each other for several years. Am going to have a hard time on deciding what to present and what not to present. :). Thank You for taking your time to answer my questions.
