Hey all,

Just wondering - filled the DS-260 with my lawyer and submitted, but now I have this niggling feeling maybe I should have asked you all about this. There is a question on there about wanting to work in the medical field without having fulfilled NBME criteria. It's a bit of a tricky question, the way it's worded. Just wondering if anyone here is in the medical/nursing field and what they chose to put on there, and what the result was (any checklists asking for degrees, licensing and all that)?

Feel free to just PM me privately if you want.

I seriously need to join some kind of meditation group.

If you plan on working in that field but have not yet taken certification, then i'm sure then i'm sure you can input that you will take certification before practicing.

Thank you for addressing this. I did write what I had, and I also wrote that I will not work unless and until I have met all state and federal requirements. I guess I am just worried that I will get a checklist because I answered that with an affirmative so that I could explain. It's a somewhat difficult to answer question, as the licensing is not a black and white thing in the U.S.

You don't get checklists for the answers in the DS-260.

You explain anything at the interview if needed.

if something is wrong in the DS-260 it doesn't let you complete the form or submit it.

Ah ok, that helps a lot!

And out of curiosity, because you have been on this forum for a while, what IS the most common reason people seem to get checklists?

There are many different reasons for checklists but they are either because something is missing entirely, something was left blank, something doesn't match something it should, or the person reading it can't (or WON'T) make out what it says!

I received a checklist for one of my children's paperwork. Even though it was the EXACT same as mine and my other son's, whoever was reading it sent us a checklist to say the total on the AOS document didn't match the tax return. It sure as S--- DID match but there was no point arguing and wasting time about it. I sent the exact same document in again and it was accepted. And by exact same document I mean the exact same attachment that had already been sent and magically it matched. My guess was that it was printed poorly on their end or the person just couldn't see the number clearly. I have no idea for sure but the same document read by different eyes was apparently not legible.

Other people get checklists for typos or leaving things blank that need to be filled in. Everything needs to match and line up. The person adjudicating the case can't look at it and say "Well I know what they MEANT to write" and let it go. It has to be precise.

Take time when filing everything out and don't miss anything. This process is stressful enough as it is. If you take your time to not miss anything then you at least know you did your part and the rest is up to the person on the other end. Make it easy for them!

Thanks Ms. Hogan, I appreciate your measured response to frustrations and good advice. This process has been somewhat stressful due to the fact I feel like I have no control over what my lawyer is submitting, especially since he's in the U.S. Like I've said before, we've kept him on since it has been hard for me to do all this paperwork as both my husband and I work 12-16 hour days most weeks. I've actually sent him some of the advice posted on VJ lol… as he would tell me things and I'd be like "but that's already been suggested on VJ!!" lol. I think he gets frustrated with me but I don't care - it's about MY life. Anyways, thank you! Much appreciated, as always.

Unfortunately lawyers don't respond the way we do when it is our own case. Because they are simply paid to do it at their convenience without the urgency of wanting to be with a loved one! You are already this far in with the lawyer but my guess is that by now you are actually doing EXTRA work because you're doing the research and then having to explain to the lawyer anyway. I don't know what kind of commitment you have with the lawyer but if you don't NEED them for actual immigration hurdles you might consider taking over and finishing on your own. I bet it will go faster and smoother! But that's just my two cents! If your lawyer gets a checklist because they missed something they'll just put it aside and deal with it at their earliest convenience. If you are filling out your own stuff you are going to be so diligent to be sure that doesn't happen! And if by chance it does you will respond to it immediately rather than leave it hanging, no? Just some food for thought! I got through it working equally long days and 2 kids along with my application. Only you can decide what is right for you and what you are comfortable with. No matter what, though, eventually you'll be done with all of this hoop-jumping and it will become some distant memory! I promise!

I don't know how to make a little "blushing" face but I want to put one on here! I hear you, and if there is anything else untoward I will take this into my hands totally (I really most have). Part of my reluctance has been the huge chunk of money we paid him, sigh, I feel like he should finish working for what we paid (probably just a stupid emotional response). Unfortunately I was not aware of VJ when we started this process.

Here is to no more hiccups and I cannot wait for this to be a distant memory!!!!! :)
