Everything seems limited by my EAD, I'm a K-1 AoS applicant. Got a NPIW right now.

My EAD expires in September, so does my driving licence and when I try to apply for credit I've been told AmEx won't accept non permanent residency and credit unions have told me they won't give me credit longer than my EAD validity.

I got added as an authorized user on my wife's credit card and it bumped my FICO (experian) score to 770s.

Anyone know any banks who give credit longer than EAD? And with that score can I apply? My income is $0 and I'm self employed, can I use household income when applying?

Seems weird to me.

Don't believe there will be anybody will to give you a credit without permanent residency.

One comment - do not believe these credit scores as it is not the ones that creditors actually pull when you apply. It will be much much lower - after 3 years of flawless history (car load, multiple credit cards with ~$40k total limit) credit score I get from on-line services is still different than ones that creditors got when I applied for mortgage. Credit Karma scores are essentially worthless - mine was overestimated by ~30 points, wife's was undestimated by 30-40 (her actual score was north of 800)...

I don't know why it seems weird that a person only authorized to be in this country until September, who has $0 income would not be offered credit.

It is unlikely my income will go much higher. Everything goes into the business. Can you use household income at all for applying for credit?

I don't know. Ring up and speak to customer service and ask rather than getting a bunch of hits to your credit report applying at a lot of places. You have credit using your wife's card. Is there a reason you need a card strictly in your name immediately?

When my husband registered his business with the State Comptroller so he could remit the sales tax he collects, he was in undated with credit card offers as a business owner. Have you been getting about three offers a week? Call one of them up and talk to a person.

Meaning your wife's income ? Yes, if she co-signs for it. Can't claim her income as "household" and therefore yours.

Funny thing is I have yet to get any credit card offers. I get loads of offers for my business but not for me.

I would like to increase the available credit that the household has, also I want to be able to get credit cards for my business and don't I need good credit for that? I am very sceptical of the effect the authorized card user thing I am doing now has on my credit score. I can't believe I could have a high 700 score after a couple of weeks of being on her card. If it really does work I can't imagine why everyone else doesn't do it? Then what is the point of a secured credit card?

Well, I noticed this ruling: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/newsroom/the-cfpb-amends-card-act-rule-to-make-it-easier-for-stay-at-home-spouses-and-partners-to-get-credit-cards/

If it really does work I can't imagine why everyone else doesn't do it? Then what is the point of a secured credit card?

I can tell you our experience. My husband was added to a couple of my cards and used them, never thinking about applying himself.

Then once in Target, the sales associate asked if he wanted to apply for an instant credit card and get 5% off the iPad. I told him to give it a try. Approved in about 5 seconds...nothing to do with my name on it...only his SSN, name, address (only I year), unemployed even. It was only for $500. He used it a few times, but rarely.

Maybe a year later he checked his free credit report thing out of curiosity and saw he was reported under his Target card and all my cards where he was a user. When he was at the T-Mobile store they had to run his credit. He asked the guy what it was. They guy said it didn't give him a number but was the highest T-Mobile rating possible.

Fast forward a bit and he got an offer for a airline mile visa with 25,000 bonus miles. I told him to apply. He had a salary to report by then. He did it online and was approved for a Chase Visa in one minute. $8800.

I can't help but conclude that being on my cards contributed to his credit score. But this evolved over time. We also charge everything...thousands every month and pay off the entire balance. You are expecting your own card too soon. Being able to say you have lived at your address for a number of years has to help too. Those who want something immediately probably are stuck with a secured card.
