Re-entry permit for IR-5

Has anyone applied for a re-entry permit for their relatives recently? Especially at Nebraska SC.

The timelines say 3 months. My mom applied for one in September, and still no word. It is supposed to be sent to the US consulate in Moscow, since she had to leave before she could receive it here.

I wonder if they only let you know when the permit arrives at the consulate... The status still says "fee accepted" as of September 15. She did biometrics on October 15. She needs it before she comes back in April. They might or might not ask for it, but since she only spent two months here before she left for 5 months, it won't hurt to have it on her.

Before you ask why she left - she has a 7-year-old disabled son in Russia with no other relatives. We are in the process of his immigration.

first of all, why did she file for a reentry permit when she doesn't need it? at least not for now. the reentry permit is only if she will live abroad or be out of the US for more than 1 year and up to 2 years. for a 5 month trip she doesn't need a reentry permit, only if it's over a year to prevent from abandoning the GC

I am well aware of that. I usually research the subject before I act, and research some more before I ask a question on a forum.

I will, however, explain. She is planning on coming back in April, but we do not know for sure whether she will be able to. She might not be able to come until her son gets his visa, since 24/7/several weeks baby sitters are very hard to come by.

Just got the approval letter. It took a little over 4 months. Now the permit will be sent to the consulate. That's another few weeks.
