No biometrics letter

NOA1 date for ROC is 12/01/14.

Still no biometrics appointment letter.

USCIS case status online cannot find my receipt number.

I have a lawyer filing the I-751 (He's very reputable on Yelp..) who says I should receive the biometrics appointment letter in mid-January some time, and that the USCIS case status system is notoriously unreliable.. Seems like a lot of I-751 applicants receive their biometric appointment letters just a few days or weeks after NOA1.

I have the physical NOA1 in hand. Any two cents?

My first two cents is that lawyers have been known to NOT know what they are talking about around here. They don't care how quickly your case progresses because it isn't having any effect on their life. It is your personal journey.

The NOA1 receipt number is no use for checking the case online. Read the notice, it says somewhere in it that when you receive your Biometrics appointment THEN you will be able to check your status online. I answered this earlier but it must have been for someone else. When you get your biometrics appointment it will have a difference case number than that receipt number you have. THAT is the number that sill show up on the USCIS site.

Being a reputable lawyer on Yelp doesn't really mean anything since anyone can write a review for him. The information he is giving you seems to be inaccurate compared to what you can see in timelines here on the boards. Did you include your information in the group for your month of filing so you can compare to others?

Did you file in California or Vermont? That seems to make a difference.

I am not an expert and have not memorized everyone's information but what I'm seeing on the boards is that the biometrics letters are not taking THAT long to arrive after NOA1. Is there any other notice that has been received that perhaps the lawyer missed? Did they request something else before setting your biometrics appointment?

I filed at CSC. Local office is Chatsworth (in LA's suburbia).

The lawyer is also a member of AILA, listed in Super Lawyers and I checked with the California Bar Association too.. He does seem reputable. I'm just very concerned about the missing biometrics appointment letter. Anyone know what happens if I were to miss the appointment because I never got the appointment letter?

If you miss the appointment they consider you to have abandoned the process. There is wording to that extent in the NOA1 letter. Perhaps it would be wise to start making some phone calls to see if you can get some information. It seems to be a trend that most people receive the biometrics appointment letter not too long after the NOA1. Yours has been over a month now. How can you prove that you did not receive the letter if they ask why you missed an appointment? KWIM? I would encourage you to call and follow up about the appointment times. I don't know exactly WHO to call so hopefully someone can fill us both in!

JayJayH: you have nothing to worry at all. You just sent in your application. It takes from a month to a good two months, so I would no way worry about it in your case. I sent my stuff at the first week of September and got the biometrics appointment mid November. The service centers are more than backlogged...just be patient and sit tight.

It took me about 2 months between filing petition and Biometrics appointment. I contacted USCIS about a month after filing because I was worried too and got a standart response that their processing centers are backlogged and might experience delays in appointments schedule. About a month after this responce I finally got an appointment.
