Thanks everyone for your replies.

I did think about a possible lawsuit but I don't have the money to pursue that.

I think I will write something up this weekend and include my list with it and give that to my employers on Monday.

This probably sounds awful but... the thing is, I hate for anyone to lose a job, even if they are harassing me. Does that make sense? I dunno, I guess I'm a dork.

But I just can't work with this guy anymore.

I really wish they could make him take some kind of class or see a counselor or something but I don't know if it would do any good and I don't know how they could make him do that.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

You could get one of those shark attys who is either: a specialist and wants his/her name in the press and will do it pro bono or for a cut of the winnings, a newb who wants to make a name for his/herself and will do it pro bono, or even call the ACLU <----I so hate them, but they might help

The bottom line is, you may not want him to lose his job, but then again, this is a serious problem here. If it bothers you enough, you should pursue action and not excuses, cos having a knife flicked at you is nothing to sneeze at. If your employers won't do anything about it to protect you from this verbal bullying, then you should either do something about it, or accept it and stay there, or accept it and leave. Expecting the employers to take action is a little bit unrealistic, since their track record isn't so great.

A friend of mine was having a problem with another co-worker, who was a relatively new hire. It was stressing her out mightily, enough for her to start putting her resumes out. One day it all came to a head, and she sat down with her boss (owner of the company) and told her very calmly and rationally what was going on, how it was affecting her, and said basically "her or me" and left. The next day her boss called her in and said "I choose you, if she doesn't listen to what I tell her, she will be fired, I can't have you leave." Things have been much better since then.

Now this particular co-worker wasn't going around brandishing knives or what have you, but the principle is the same. I'm with whoever suggested you go on in Monday with your incident list and say "This is what is going on, here is my incident list, this is how it makes me feel, and I'm seriously considering leaving" and gauge the reaction. if it looks like not much is going to happen, I'd make firm on my promise and give notice. It's scary, but nothing is worth risking your safety.

Actually Melly, I just thought of something.....you should have your list somehow accepted into your file. Let's say the guy gets a write up based on what you wrote....if you have any siggys confirming acceptance of all these incidents, and still down the road nowt changes, you will have a very important piece of evidence for a suit should you so choose to pursue one.

Have everything documented. If you talk to your bosses, have them sign summat saying you spoke to them. The purpose is twofold...one, it will all be very good evidence, and two, it will show your bosses in a not too subtle manner that you're done fcukin around, and it might scare them into actually doing summat about it

I would be inclined to report this man's actions to the police as well. Every police report can then be used as evidence in court, proof of a pattern of ongoing harassment, to take out a restraining order against him. That way if he breaks it he can be arrested.

The fact is, you mentioned this inappropriate behavior to management and they blew it off.

I would:

1.) Quietly search for a new job.

2.) Document the incidents of harassment and your reports to management.

3.) After finding a new job and resigning the present one, hire a lawyer.

4.) Sue the current employer for their failure to rectify the problem.

You should not stand for that sh!t and will yield $$$ for your anguish.

Good luck.

Yes. The management HAS to take action - you have reported workplace harassment, and no action has been taken. This is not good.

You need to report all those incidents to the management. If you feel you well-being is threatened, don't hesitate to file a police report. Go to your local labor board and tell them about what's going on - they are very strict on workplace harassment.

You don't have to look for another job if you don't want to. If you sue your company, they won't be able to fire you - it will be considered retaliation. However, this is not a healthy work environment - this guy is crazy and violent, I can't believe the management is not doing anything about him.
