You connect it to your cable/satellite/antenna at home and to your router and you can watch your cable (and change the channels) anywhere in the world you have an internet connection. There is no monthly fee for slingbox. It works on computers or mobile devices. Pretty neat.

"Slingbox is a set-top box that connects to your TV (or any other video-output device) and streams the signal to another machine in real-time -- there's no recording involved. This machine might be your computer in your home, in which case Slingbox streams the signal via your home network. It might be your Web-connected laptop or cell phone located anywhere in the world, in which case Slingbox streams the data via the Web. You can control the video that appears on your screen just like you were watching from home."

They advertise the he11 out of this thing on 'The Jim Rome Show'. I don't know of anyone who has one but I think your remote device controls the channel that is being watched so (the way I understand it) no watching 1 channel local and another remote.

Just skimmed the site quickly but couldn't tell whether you necessarily have to be watching the same channel on the laptop and on the TV. This would come in handy when my husband and I argue over the remote. :lol:

if you connect it from the cable box you control the TV

if you connect it before the cable box you get up to 100 channels of analog cable. some cable companies simulcast analog and digital. so you can have digital cable and can still use the slingbox. slingbox has a message board too that can answer any questions.

I just bought one.
