Hey Everyone,
My name is Ellie and my fiancé is named Francisco (Fron) and we just mailed our I-129F on December 24th. I am from New Hampshire but I live in Mississippi and my fiancé is from the Dominican Republic. Our 3 year anniversary is coming up in March and we got engaged in November. I used to live in the Dominican Republic with my fiancé but I moved back to the USA in July 2013 for better job opportunities.
I am very excited and nervous about the K-1 Visa process! I would love to hear any advice or words of wisdom regarding this process. I know a few couples who have been through the K-1 Process and it took anywhere from 3 months to a year to get through the entire process (start to finish).

Happy New Year,

Ellie

Abby! You went through the DR as well? How long did your process take?

It depends! check the timelines and you will see.

The process is different from may-june last year...just keep checking the US embassy website and the Embassy info for the DR here in visajourney!

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have a strong relationship and having lived in the DR you have lots of evidence so your process should be a breeze! There's lots of information on this site and people are always available to help with questions and share their experiences.

My only advice would be to stop paying for a lawyer (I know it's probably too late but seriously, if you can stop)! Many of us on here successfully completed our processes with the help of this site and there are a lots of stories from people on here who've had lawyers mess up applications, lose applications, or drag the process out to make more money.

If you can't get out of it now at least save yourself the money and don't rehire them for the AOS after you get married. You've got all the help you need here and it's free! :dancing:

Thanks Paul. Our lawyer has been extremely helpful and I have been checking everything over multiple times

Hello and welcome. My best advice is to double check everything your lawyer does, do not think that because he is a lawyer everything will be smooth, they tend to make many mistakes.

Hi

Welcome. I would follow several timelines of others who sent applications at the same time as you as well as other applicants for the DR. As others have mentioned, I don't think you need the lawyer but whatever works for you. Also, beware that the system in the DR is changing (especially around scheduling interviews etc) so be careful as it gets closer to make sure you are reading current info/posts about that process.

Best of luck - our interview is in three days. I'm freaking out just a little bit! :)
