The weapon used to kill those girls was deemed too heavy for George to even lift, let alone swing with enough force to kill someone. The whole case stunk. If they wanted a proper conviction, they should have followed protocol.

What's the point of spending public resources on a 70 year old case?

The pin is not as big as some have been led to believe:

Never too late for justice? Tell that to the dead guy and his family. Too late for them no matter what people say. He's dead and he shouldn't be. The state murdered him.

Oh, and South Carolina does make Florida look good.

I know  The thing is …he is dead…..his family is dead….or almost dead…and they are dinking around with a 70 year old case. What's the point?

You have to let go before you can heal. Picking at a scab for seventy years is probably not the healthiest thing to do. The process may have been flawed, but in any reasonable light, the kid probably got what he deserved.

You can't be serious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stinney

Following Stinney's arrest, Stinney's father was fired from his job, and his family was forced to flee the town under threat of being lynched, leaving George with no support during his 81-day confinement and trial. The entire trial, including jury selection, took one day. Stinney's court-appointed defense counsel was a tax commissioner campaigning for election to local political office. Stinney's lawyer did not challenge the three police officers who testified Stinney confessed to the two murders, despite this being the only evidence against him. The police did not make written records of Stinney's purported confession, and at trial, Stinney denied confessing to the crime.

Stinney's trial had an all-white jury due to black people being denied the right to vote, which was required for people to serve as jurors. Other than the testimony of the three police officers, at trial prosecutors called three inconsequential witnesses: the man who discovered the bodies of the two girls and the two doctors who performed the post-mortem examination. Stinney's counsel did not call any witnesses. Trial presentation lasted two and a half hours. The jury took ten minutes to deliberate, after which they returned with a guilty verdict.

George Frierson stated in interviews that "there has been a person that has been named as being the culprit, who is now deceased. And it was said by the family that there was a deathbed confession." Frierson said that the rumored culprit came from a well-known, prominent white family. A member, or members of that family, had served on the initial coroner's inquest jury which had recommended that Stinney be prosecuted.[

While what happened to Stinney was tragic, and pretty much par for the course in those days, why even mess with it now? Nothing can ever make it right for the kid or his family, though I'm sure they are proud (in a sad way) that Stinney was cleared. But it's not like they will ever know who did the crime, nor be able to punish the (most likely dead) killer.

You should try selling that to the Nazi hunters... I'm sure they have it all wrong by not letting go of the holocaust, right?

That's precisely what the entire nation has been trying to tell southerners for over 100 years. The Confederacy lost. Get over it. Let's get rid of all those Dixie flags. Everyone is dead and they keep messing around with a 150-year old case. What's the point?

The Nazi hunters are adjudicating court cases for dead people? You do realize everyone involved in the OP case is dead, don't you?

Raw Story

Another example of why Wikipedia is not a reliable source.
