Hey guys,

I was looking into the specifications of the medical examination prior to the interview. I noticed that they will check on HIV, however, since it has been removed from the list of communicable diseases since 2010, and it states it will no longer be required. Why do people still have to do it? Anybody knows about it?

I was not required to do it, it is the form but you are right it is no longer a requirement. The civil surgeon/ authorized doctor will tell you which you should do and well it is not a requirement.

They only drew blood from me to test it for syphilis, so I was not tested for HIV. However, they hand you a medical questionnaire that you need to fill out prior to your examination and it asks whether you have HIV. But no matter what, it is not a reason for exclusion from approval/entry, as you already pointed out.

I am not sure about that. They told me they only would do some basic blood test and told me not to worry. Later they misspelled my name on the sealed health check forms. So i had to return the envelop back to the clinic. Then i got a chance to open the envelop in front of the doctor to recheck if any other information about me was all correct, I saw on the page2 about blood and urine tests, they DID everything, at least 50 different items, including hiv.

Tho i think hiv result may not affect the visa approval, but I still think they test everything. They may seem to take your words, but they still test everything. Just my experience.

Oh wow. Glad you got it all sorted out - what a nightmare.

I know that the procedures of the medical vary depending on the country. To some panel physicians it's sufficient if you say you had chicken pox as a child, but others want to see a written declaration from your GP or the lab results of a titer test. And, for example, I was examined with my underwear on while others have to strip down completely or some women even have to undergo an entire gynecological examination. I read the technical instructions for the panel physicians and it is up to their discretion what they feel like they need to test. If you admitted or they have the impression that you're a drug abuser, they can specifically test for sedatives, psychotropics etc. or send you to counseling if you drink too much. I know they didn't test me for HIV because the panel physician kindly sent me a copy of my lab results to my home address.

Anyways, OP, you're fine. No need to worry about it ;)

Hehe, thanks guys. No. I'm actually not worried, was recently undergoing same thing and everything is okay. I was more curious why they still do it, since the law states opposite and it is a delicate matter, for some reason, that even here in Germany, your doctor might not know about and results are treated anonymously.
