I don't think it's the underdog you root for, Lisa - I think you do it for the sake of being controversial ;)

I'm firmly on Ilan's side - although I think it was petty and snide to make the remark about cherries, he was just doing what he thought he could to get ahead, and isn't that what competition is about? It would be different if he'd salted the cherries or something, but I don't think a little smacktalkin' is going to kill anyone. Marcel just irritates me too much to have any sympathy.

I'm not sure what to make of the new design one - it looks like they've found the most irritating people they can to compete. I love the clip with the woman saying "You can't just design a room around the cat!" though - I'm gonna have to watch it just to see the context of that!

LOL Christina...I actually did think Jeffrey was the best designer...but Marcel has my vote cos I just think he's been railroaded. I mean it's not like we can taste the food, lol

The comment about the cherries to the panel was cheap & lacked class. But it actually showed him as being insecure, imo...cos if your food is truly better, you don't need to take cheap shots at anyone

but man can he foam!!

funniest quote of this thread, lol

WOW really shocked so playing it safe with tinned eels on soggy toast beat what they described as cutting edge menu .............. it was the last show where I thought playing it safe with what you know would win over taking it to the edge and in the judges words pulling of a meal that developed and grew as each course came unreal.

I don't care whether he was a nice guy (though I did notice last week those he worked with in real life speak very well of him) and not sure his 'team' helped (couldn't believe anyone would have picked Michael or Betty "the home cook queen' for that matter) I did think on the night he went the extra mile, took the risks and bar the missing fish pulled it off in style yup dissappointed for him.

But would lay any money that ten years from now he'll be held in much higher esteem than Ilan ever will in the culinary world.

Now to avoid the design show :help:

i'm a chef and i've worked with people just like marcel. i can't stand that cocky little ####### and i'm glad he lost. he needs a reality check that he isn't the top chef because he can throw a spoonful of xanthan gum on something and make foams (foams aren't exactly difficult. and they certainly aren't cutting edge anymore)

i think he's definitely talented. there's no denying that. but needs to work on his people skills. being a chef isn't only about the food you create but how you work with others and how you can lead a team. this guy is a loser.

yeah like...im like.. so like like yeah yo so check it! what a TOOL. did any of you watch the live interview on bravo.tv? he seemed totally wasted.

The two women who created the 'chinese restaurant' the younger one was really pissed as she felt she let the older one have her way and didn't 'express herself' shucks lol

Widge,

You express my thoughts quite well, so I won't repeat the things that you wrote. I agree.

I will repeat what I've written before - I think that the vignettes that were selected for Marcel throughout the series were selected specifically to create a controversial impression of him that I believe is exagerated. Especially after hearing his responses to the questioning of the judges prior to giving their decisions. He answered with meaningful answers about what he was trying to achieve, and he answered with maturity and balance, if not modesty. He acknowledged Sam's contribution to recovering on the 3rd course when the fish was found to be missing in a very straight forward manner, he said nothing to minimize Sam's contribution.

Ilan's responses to the questions he was asked, on the other hand, were very superficial. And I feel that he displayed the very same shortcomings of character that he accused Marcel of.

I think what gave it to Ilan was that he didn't make any mistakes. Marcel recovered beautifully from his mistakes, but he made 2 and the judges were aware that they had been made.

I think if they hadn't admitted that he heart of palms was Sam's idea Marcel would have won, since they were so impressed with the lightness and different plate with that heart of palm (which btw is ordinary salad ingredient in Brazil). I didn't like Marcel much since I remember him struggling with too cocky plates in the beggining, and being arrogant about the challenges. He did grow towards the end.

Ilan played it totally safe doing Spanish, when he's not even spanish he's just doing that 'cus he works in a spanish restaurant. I can't help but notice that most raves was about how perfectly his fish and meat were cooked, which got him really high points, but in fact, it was Elia who cooked his fish and meat.

I think Elia was the best chef off the bunch.
