Hello I’m hoping that someone will be able to help me with some questions ,here is what’s going on my I- 129 packet is at the Manila embassy and my fiancée is getting her stuff together ,but due to a work situation that has happened in the last month I have had to take a 16 grand pay cut and it will probably take a good yr to get back to the previous wage so now we have to put everything on hold because I don’t have the money to bring here and her son over ……so my question is how long does the Embassy hold onto the packet ,I have heard that every 4 months they renew it for a total of 1 yr and my second question is once she is approved and get the Visa to come here how long is that good for , again I have heard that the visa can be used up to 6 months before it expires …..I’m living at a friend’s house now paying no rent just helping with some of the utilities so I can save as much money as possibly for a yr. So this is why I need to know these things so I can time when to have her do her interview …Thanks in advance for any advice …. Sometimes life throw curves at you and all you can do is put one foot in front of the other and just keep moving this is what I have had to do make some hard decisions and move forward and just stay strong for both of us ........................

Your visa application will be extended up to a year. Once she has her visa, that visa is good for 6 months from the date of the medical exam. So do the medical close to the visa interview so you can have the largest window available.

Save your money and make her proud that under the circumstances you find yourself in, you can achieve your goals.

Yes, sometimes life throws curve balls but aim for the home run and she soon will be there. Good Luck. Return here if and when you have questions.

Yes you have up to a year with the petition, keep track of the date on the NOA2. Then you have up to 6 months on the visa, the visa validity is tied to the date of the medical, so do as Greenbaum suggested and complete the medical within a week or so of the interview date. This will give you close to 18 months... close.

One thing I suggest is you or your fiancee setup the account so the embassy doesn't think the petition has been abandoned. After the account is setup, just let it sit.
