Then after the 3 days comes the 60 days of being patient waiting for the culture results.... hoping you don't get notification early.

SLEC probably would have denied the sample if the smalll amount of blood was a problem, so that should be fine since they accepted it.

The odds are in your favor that you are negative. If you are positive though then there are at least 3 more sputum tests over the 7 month DOT process.

Looking at your profile it is cold this time of year in the place you are going, like 20 or 30 degrees colder in celcius than the Philippines. Summer is beginning in May, which is much warmer :)

Im currently doing my 3 day Sputum. It will be my 3rd day tomorrow. When I had my medical, the nurse didn't really explain to me well what was happening. The only thing she told me was, my x-ray was shady so I have to do this. I dont feel any symptoms nor have any histories of TB. I don't smoke either and has been to jobs that required a thorough medical exams so it shocked me :( Anyway, it is as it is and we just have to follow the process.

My concern though, since I am completely well, no cold or cough. I was having a hard time to cough and produce phleghms from the last 2 days, hopefully not tomorrow. My throat hurts already and having a bit of a headache because I was forcing myself to cough just so I can produce enough sputum. I was checking the container and I was able to produce, but it seems like there was stain of blood on it from my throat. Will it affect the test? Im trying to drink lots of water now to help me tomorrow :'(

It's really painful. Im just praying and hoping to get through this step.

Hi,

I also went through that "painful" process... The thing is - I have my annual exam for the last 10 years or so and I did not encounter any issue with my x-ray result....

However, when I asked the nurse (when I was informed that I had to undergo the sputum test), she said I have scar/s in my lungs. And in the Phils, it's still considered "Normal", it's not per CDC though.... that's why.... I was kind of confident that it will turn out negative, and it did.... I can say though that 'twas the longest 2 months of my life....

... don't worry about the stain of blood, they can "isolate" it from what they're looking for... It's your last day by now.. praying for you that you'll have good result in your pulmonary evaluation.

Cheers!

Thanks everyone. It made me feel alright. Youre all right, they accepted my sputum samples. Today I went to St. Lukes for my pulmonary evaluation. I was so worried but thank God, all three are negative! Now the 2 months begins so pls keep me in your prayers still. Thanks again.

Hi Chaeradaria :)

Congrats with your Sputum results.

I just wanna ask, because i was diagnosed with Inactive TB few years ago and took medication for 2months. I don't feel any symptomps but I'm worried to undergo medical exam soon. I hope i will pass my medical and I won't need to undergo Sputum Culture.

Why did you stop your treatment? Even if you feel better you always need to complete your antibiotics. This is to ensure that you are free from infection. Feeling better does not mean you are cleared. I am not a Dr. like manilaraf but i am a Respiratory Therapist here in the US. Stopping your treatment early can create a resistant strain of TB. You need to go back to your Dr. and make sure you are clear. I would do this before you go for your medical then you will know for sure. Usually treatment for TB is six months. I would expect to have a sputum test done at your medical with that kind of history, so dont set your appointment too close.

I need some clarification here. I feel so down. Tonight 6pm, I got a text from someone claiming to be from Slec and that I shud go on march 31st for pulmo eval or call a number. It was my 4th week of sputum culture. I thought if its something positive, they will give u a call. I only got a text. Im so scared now. I dont have any symptoms nor histories so I was confident abt it. Now all hopes seem so far. My fiance is here and will leave on Sunday.

The down feeling will come to pass. We know exactly what you are saying as we just completed the dot in 2014. Read my VJ timeline. It details what is most likely ahead for you. It doesn't seem like it today, but everything is going to be ok.

Texting might be new process for notifying about positive sputum. My wife did dot and she said she never heard of anyone getting notified that way, phone only. She said SLEC uses text for other things, like telling people when they can re-medical after the dot is complete.

Yes. I checked the number too. Unfortunately, they are close during weekend and the number they used to sent me a message can not be reached either. I just hope they called me instead of dropping a message just like that, and 6pm Friday so they literally leave me on the air. The agony would have been less if I was able to speak to them. Tomorrow, I will know it.

No harm in calling SLEC.  Weren't you given a date to contact SLEC when you started SPUTUM?
