Good Day!

I called the SLEC today to ask if my culture test is already available. The girl I talked to,said that, it is not yet there. And to call on the given date.

I am just wondering, will that means I'm negative already?

If your culture were positive SLEC would have called you already. This is why I said NO call is a good thing. Calling will get you zero information until the date specified, as you have found out... wait of time.

My phone was off on the 3rd week, Friday.

I didn't call immediately to ask if they called me.

When I called early and was ask to wait for given date. I am somehow relieved knowing that they haven't made an early call.

Did she called on the early weeks, or she just waited for the given date to call?

I don't mean to worry you. My guess is you are negative because you are so close to final date and SLEC has not called you. I simply say this one positive case because it happened. It's not written here at VJ in link because it's a person we met during DOT. She waited to the final date SLEC told her to call and SLEC then told her positive.

Aw. that's unfortunate.

I hope and pray I won't have the same fate. I don't want to waste time only just to be told positive on the given date.

they should have informed me when I called.

I thought bacteria only grows on 3weeks to 6weeks.

SLEC is the worse thing to deal with.

I think so also, negative.

We know of case where sputum is negative 60 days at SLEC then beneficiary was skin test positive after arriving in USA, so she takes the tablets at her house in America.

I mention this only so maybe no surprise if people have to take the tablets in USA because positive skin test, but already cleared negative sputum at SLEC.

Yes sis, one week more to go. I wish to find out earlier than the given date for to main reasons;

My fiance was admitted to the hospital last Monday, and he's still there until today. No one is there to take care of him.

My visa fee validity is only until December11.

I need to pay an extra $ for the increased visa

payment.

Now, that my result is not yet ready.

I can only hope for the best.

I mention this only so maybe no surprise if people have to take the tablets in USA because positive skin test, but already cleared negative sputum at SLEC.

Those who have positive skin test but negative sputum test have latent TB. They are suggested to take 9 months of medications but not really required unlike the active tb cases. My brother has clear xray so no sputum for him but he had skin test in the US when he arrived and he was given an option to take the 9 months (to prevent the tb to be active) or not and he chose not to take the meds.

If I could do the process all over again then I would have my fiancée take the Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol, Isoniazid and Rifampicin tablets at her house every day for two months before SLEC medical, while we were waiting for her petition approval.

The Pyrazinamide and Ethambutol seem to really go after the active TB germs to make them latent. Those two meds are only taken during the first month or so of DOT. The active TB people are given another sputum after one month of taking the tablets and by then the sputum is coming back with negative results 2 months later.

Had we done that then possibly the latent TB would not have cultured in her sputum after those initial 60 days, like the positive TB germs did after only 3 weeks. Then I'd simply follow up with the 4 months of doses of Isoniazid and Rifampicin in USA rather than going to SLEC every weekday for 6 months.

It can take sputum less than 2 months only to turn from positive to negative with the meds. Doesn't take the whole DOT regimen of 6-7 months to become latent. Although I do agree that taking the full regimen of tablets is the right way to best accomplish not having the latent return to positive in the future.
