Hi Everyone - I have filed Immigration application for my parents(from Pakistan) and they reside in the mid east for decades. We have to submit supporting documents to NVC where they want us to send the original documents. We dont have the original Urdu Nikkah Nama and the marriage is form 1970s - does any one know can we get the Nikkah Nama from the Union Council ? We alreadyhave the NADRA one.

Looking forward for some information

Thanks

Syed

Assalamu Alaikum WRWB; You can obtain a duplicate urdu one from same qazi who did original Nikah. If that qazi isn't available anymore then get it from another qazi who is from same UC where nikah was performed. In addition, obtain affidavit on stamp paper from two people who attended nikah back then. Also write an explanation to NVC as to why a duplicate and affidavits are being submitted. Make sure to get urdu one translated in English as well.

It will be a duplicate. If original witnesses are available then they can sign if not then that can be indicated. As long as local UC will recognize it, the embassy will have no issue. Nothing new in Pakistan for old marriages.

Hello,

In Pakistan Urdu Marriage Certificate (Nikkah Nama) is consist of 4 similar pages and we call them (Pert) in Urdu. And at the time of marriage signatures of groom and witnesses etc are needed on all four parts.

Officially Nikkah Khawan (Molvi) submits one original copy (duly signed by all witnesses etc) in Office of Marriage Registrar at the time registration. If you are sure that marriage was properly registered and issued Urdu Marriage Certificate at that time then you can obtain preserved copy of Nikkah Nama from the Office of Marriage Registrar. You might be asked to provide Names, Date of Marriage and name of Molvi to track data from old records.

Thanks

AU Khan
