Hey Guys,

My file is almost close to its end at NVC and will be moving on pretty soon to India for the final step (interview). My question is would there be problems if I was to switch employement? I am planning on quitting my current job and am thinking of starting my own venture. Now I am going to India on Nov 19th to visit my wife as it has already been close to a year and will be there for a month with her. I am being hopeful that she will get her interview in that same time frame while I am there and both of us can come back together. So would there be a problem if I was to quit my current job and start my own venture? I have already read a few posts on VJ about this on how I may have to go about redoing the I864 and giving it to my wife so she can it along with her for her interview but those threads were in regards to a job switch, here I am not really switching a job I am quitting my existing one and starting my own company. So what are my options, should I just wait it out until she has had her interview and then quit or would it be okay for me to do it?

Thanks. :)

It really doesn't matter if you quit or start new one.. Check with NVC abt AOS (approved or not) ... it should be fine if your 2013 Tax Returns have sufficient income ... They only ask financial questions to applicant with border line income..

current income is very important. If you get a new job you need a new I-864 for interview. I suggest waiting until the interview is over and done and the spouse is in the USA.

self employment income needs 1 year to qualify, vs an hourly wage/salary type income.

Actually this isn't true.

NVC doesn't approve of the AOS, they merely accept it and check it for correctness. Current income or assets is very important. It would not matter if you made 2 million dollars last year if you are unemployed or do not have the assets to cover 3x the guidelines.
