Papa John's founder and CEO John Schnatter attended the funeral of an employee of the popular pizza chain after he was gunned down during a robbery at a Columbia, Tennessee, store on October 21.

CNN affiliate WKRN reports that 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer was buried on October 25 at Spring Hill Memorial Park. Schaffer's family told WKRN that Papa John's has shown a "tremendous" amount of support to them, paying for all the medical and funeral expenses.

Papa John's also released a formal statement, which reads, "We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the Schaffer family. The safety of our employees is our top priority. We are providing counseling for our team members, and we are fully cooperating with local law enforcement during this investigation."

Columbia police have arrested 17-year-old Darious Fitzpatrick, who has been charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery. They are still on the hunt for a second suspect who entered the restaurant with Fitzpatrick. Anyone with information on his identity should contact Columbia police.

and by doing all this, we really hope he does not sue us.

Maybe i am jaded from being behind the scenes, but I don't believe any corporation of CEO does anything out of sincerity or from the heart.

This is the same CEO that fights tooth and nail in order to not give any of his employees health insurance, isn't it? Some concerned guy indeed...

Exactly. It was all for PR I promise you. I bet he was sweating a law suit
