I’ve been waiting since Jan. 04-07 for my SS number. I called them Friday to see if they had some new Information. The lady was very nice on the phone but told me that they could not process it through the Computer and so they send it manually to the Homeland Security. Now I have to wait an other 2-4 weeks.

I assume it has to do with my change of address. My Lawyer sent an AR-11 off on Jan -02-07. I called also USCIS on Wednesday to see if they have correctly updated my address yet. They told me that I would get a notice in the mail when it was changed and if I don’t get one in the next 2 weeks, I have to call them again and ask for an address inquiry.

I’m really sad and depressed right know.

Keep on that SS office!!! We filed for ours in July, kept calling and getting hung up on, etc and had to give up since our I-94 had expired and they hadn't done their stuff in time as far as getting manual authorization (and they had PLENTY of time). We should have physically gone into the office and harrassed them a lot more about it. Apparently they didn't even try to do manual authorization until November! :P

Yes, it sucks. They are slow :(

It also sucks that you don't even have an SS number. I applied for a new SS card too, and I'm ready for a long wait, but I least I have my number.

It's not a bad idea to go to their office and bug them. And if they are rude to you, always ask for the manager! :)

Good luck! :)

Scooby, you have your EAD. The employer can hire you without a SSN as long as you have applied for it and have an EAD. So don't let that stop you from looking for work.

Since we are on the topic about SSN's I thought I would ask this here.

I'm waiting on my K1 visa but from 1983-2002 I was a legal permanent resident in the US. I still have my social security card form then. Do any of you know if I keep this SSN for life or if I need to get a new one?

You keep your number for life, unless you have to be in a witness protection program and your identity has to be erased. I assume it's not the case :)

That's interesting. I thought you needed an SS number to work. Was I wrong?

Social Security number is permanent. It should be on record with SS Admin. You should be able to get information from SS Admin. regarding your SS account.

USCIS does *not* send out receipt notices for an AR-11 change of address! They only send a notice for the sponsor I-865 change of address. I hope your spouse also sent their change of address?

Now that is very interesting. You see I told my lawyer that he had to do an I-856 change of address as well for my husband. Well he told me that it would not be necessary as they don't care about the sponsors, but only about the Immigrant. I told him I was not too happy with that, but he insisted he knew what he was doing. So “no” we have not done a change of address for my husband. Every time I ask him to fill out a paper the Lawyer charges me an extra 60 -100 dollars. I already gave him $2000 (includes going to the Interview) and he is not even going to be on the interview with us. Not quit right.

I’ve been looking for work since 2 weeks but everyone is basically telling me with out a SS number they will not hire me. So I’m stuck until the number is in my hand. When I went to the SS office for the first time they gave me a letter with my application number for the SS# request and it said that I can’t work until I get me number.

You lawyer is a a$$ yes you need to change your sponsors address... do it yourself its easy to do... also write to your local office with your change of address and if you have changed offices write you your old office telling them you have moved and please forward any case papers to your new office.... also put you name on your mailbox and make sure your mail person knows you are getting mail from USCIS....

Filing the AR11 does not update pending cases only the computer...

Thanks for the info and I agree. My lawyer is a $$. So I'll fill out the form my self. We have a co-sponsor but her address has not changed.

My case is still at the Missouri office. It has not been transferred to any local office. Can I contact the Missouri office some how to tell them about the change of address?
