Okay, so it wasn't the "hardships of a long distance relationship".

This is a major mistake with an interviewer: to tell a diversionary lie at first, and then change the story when pressed. Even this second story doesn't say what happened, and again: I don't need to know. I am just telling you that in an interview you have to out with the truth because they know how to detect evasion and diversion. It makes them think you are hiding something when it can be nothing at all.

If you said "she lied to me", and then further explained that you demonstrated it was unacceptable by leaving her for a time - an interviewer is going to understand that and think nothing is amiss. But if you lie to the interviewer while having these two different applications they're going to be suspicious.

I infer that you don't want to bad-mouth your fiancé here, which is understandable. So we say something vague like "hardships of a long distance relationship". But with an interviewer you can't do that.

You are so on the money with your answer to the OP.

I was at my wife's interview (USEM) and while she was being interviewed I overheard a conversation taking place with another CO and an applicant near where I was sitting. The CO was sharp. In a matter of two questions she was able to unearth that the applicant was lying about the fact that the "K2" was really hers, but her sisters (the sister was already in the USA). Long story short, she was dismissed and was not approved. It would be my guess she will never be able to be petitioned or seek a visa to USA and possibly they ruined this 9 year old boys opportunity to ever have a visa.

I agree 1000%

Lying is not easy to do correctly, and though some beat the system, I would not intentionally lie or omit any information because you are just asking for denial and/or grief.

My fiance had the easiest interview in the world from both the Filipino and American consulate, the Filipino asked 4 questions and looked over our evidence of being together, the American asked 6 total questions and said my fiance was sweet. Know why? My fiance is genuine in her intentions, told all truths, and this made it so easy for her. She said she saw a couple of Filipinas crying after their interview, likely because they lied or did not have everything required.

In Greenbaum's example, if you are lying on your petition, you also have to face another reality...you can get deported if later on down the line they find out something you lied about (especially lying about identity.) But in any case, they are trained to detect fraud and even if the situation is "iffy", I would be upfront because that will go a longer way then outright lying to them about anything.

Some people are slick, but most are not as slick as they seem. Honesty is always best OP.
