Your wife could be suffering from bipolar disorder, PTSD or borderline personality.

That is exactly what I was thinking about!!!

I lived with someone like that and the best is to FLEE!!! It will never work!! Never!!! You are wasting your time!!!! These people suck the life out of you!!!

I don't know about that, he says she's sick and the only time she's normal is when she's on pain medication. That could be MS or something that puts his wife in a lot of pain. No one is emotionally or mentally stable when in a lot of pain.

OP: Have her see a doctor that can put her on a medication that works for her pain if she has a medical issue which leaves her in pain constantly. There are options out there: Tramadol is a powerful pain medication which is less addictive. In addition, speak with her about seeing a therapist. I don't know what her medical issues are, but it seems to me that her illness may be what is causing the problems. There are likely solutions: new medications, family counselling, therapy, alternative medicine, etc.

If her behavior doesn't improve with medication or therapy than you need to determine if you can live like that. Abusive patterns don't change, unless the abuser wants to change. Make sure you read the VAWA cases and protect yourself just in case things continue to go back down the tubes.
