Hello there,

Yesterday I called USCIS to inquire about my case, since I'm still waiting for my interview to get scheduled.

My NOA is May 30th.

Biometrics June 26th

Yellow letter July 10th

Green card 3rd anniversary August 3rd.

So all this time I've been calling before, they've told me to keep waiting. Finally yesterday I was told that my background check has not been completed yet and it's been over 2 months...I don't have any criminal records, not even a traffic ticket and I have lived in the same city for the time being in the States, I have not gone out of the country either.

In Mexico I have not any records at all either.

The lady said that there's been delays in some cases, but now I'm worried about this... I should not but still it's hard to understand why it's taking so long....

I was also told to wait 30 days before I can get a service request.

Does anybody has gone through the same? I would like to get some piece of mind... last night I had a nightmare about my identity being stolen, it's crazy I know.

Thanks guys!

I don't have a common name, it's actually rather uncommon, since we got married in the Mexico there you keep your last name and I have two last names, my dad's last name and my mom's last name, so I have a very long name my first last name is rather uncommon and my second last name is very common though...

I remember reading about your case on the April 2013 filers thread. All I can say is that I've read about several cases like yours where people waited months or years and nothing happened. The only thing I've realized is that if you continue to wait, nothing will happen. There's an applicant who posted on another website that he was waiting for two years.

In about half the cases, when the applicants contacted their Senator or member of Congress, they got a reply from USCIS within a month. The applicant who was waiting for 2 years suddenly got scheduled for an interview. He was told it was a coincidence... yeah right!

So if you haven't done so already, look up your congressperson and write to him/her for fun. Some politicians will have an immigration specialist on their team. Write to your two senators as well. Even if they only send an inquiry to USCIS it will force someone to go look at your file, which may be all it takes.

Best of luck.

I would advise you to wait until the normal processing times have passed... as you can see from Niiman's post, some people wait for much longer... if you pass the 5 month target processing time (October in your case), I would start looking at other options like contacting your representatives.

For now, you can try an Infopass but that may not help.

Jimmy,

After your response last week, I did go ahead and check my case status on the USCIS website. I got an automated response that I should receive a response by Oct 2. So I am waiting for that response right now. In the meantime, I am checking my congressman and senators to see what kind of help they can provide. The only dilemma I have, is having a very common last name which I think it's what is delaying my case.

I will update as soon as I get a response.

Thanks for your time & suggestions.

I'm really glad that you got that response, let's hope you hear something by then. If you don't hear anything, it gives you more evidence that USCIS is being unresponsive; you should include this in your letter to your representatives.

Hopefully you won't need to do that.

I can see having a common name delaying your background check by a month, maybe 2, maybe 3, but surely not more than that.

There are lots of people who have very common names... probably more common than yours. My name is quite common.

On the bright side, when you finally get your naturalization certificate, it will have been extremely hard-earned. You'll deserve a week-long vacation!

Best of luck, I'm cheering for you.

Thank you guys,

I'm gonna wait a bit longer hopefully something changes soon. October 10th will be the time I can ask for a service request... and at the end of October I will contact my Senator just in case there's no changes. Though I'm just hoping I see some kind of change before the service request.

After another failed attempt to get more information, I asked if I could get any info on my background check being completed or not... the agent said that she wouldn't know since they are not able to see that information... I told her that someone else did and she said that she would transfer me to another agent, to which I had to wait for almost an hour.

This other agent or officer, said that my case has not been scheduled for an interview yet and apologized for the delay, she said that there was not other info but she sent a reminder to NBC about it, told me to wait and I got a number and a date to get an answer from NBC which is September 27th, so I guess a service request was sent, still I was surprised that it would take up to only 2 weeks to hear back from them... I wonder if they will actually send anything...

Does anybody have any experience with this?
