Hank, are you talking about the time between having the med and submitting the AOS? Is that the one year?

I think he's talking about the validity period of the SLEC medical... if I remember correctly, they do a separate medical checkup in the US and might not use the SLEC medical as a reference...

From the date the exam is performed, you have 6 months to enter the United States.

Medical examinations are generally valid for 6 months.

http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3218.html

Medical is valid for one year. The visa is valid for 6 months, with the "clock" starting on the date of the medical.

Hank, are you talking about the time between having the med and submitting the AOS? Is that the one year?

Thanks everyone for the reply :)

The medical is used for two milestones. The visa uses the medical exam date as the starting point to your six months validity of the visa which marks the time that you need to land in USA. That same medical date is used also for the AOS and therefor, the AOS needs to be completed in one year from date of the exam. One exam for two different processes.

That is what I thought. The CS was arguiing with me, claiming that he needed to do the full exam, even though my wife's St Luke's exam is only 4 mnths old at this point. I won the argument after stuffing the Instructions to CS in his face. I think he knew I was right but was hoping to milk us for the full exam.

Yeah, this is pretty much the impression I got from all the posts I've seen about CSurgeons insisting on a new one. I'm just glad the one we went to here in North Carolina didn't try that and didn't charge much either for the transcription.

All I was saying is the medical itself is good for one year, and yes if you do AOS within that year you do not need a 2nd medical.

The visa itself is valid for only 6 months and they start that clock on the date of the medical.

Above users are correct. Unless you received DOT for TB. That medical clearance is only good for 3 months. Unfortunately ours expired while waiting to schedule an interview and an unexpected G221.

Candy was only missing varicella because St. Luke's did not stock it. She had chicken pox as a young adult and is immune but no proof of that.

The CS was smart enough to order a Titer's test when she mentioned that the only shot she was missing was probably an immunity anyway from having the disease. And sure enough she passed the Titer's test fine. That impressed me about this guy. But then when he tried to milk us for a full exam, all good impressions I had about him came to a halt.

Besides his staff was grossly unqualified to do the paperwork, probably because he is too cheap to pay people who have the right skills. I was constantly fixing their mistakes, and when they ran it by the doctor they found I was right and they were wrong every time.

Yeah, I understood what you meant but I just wrote it a little different. Both say the same thing but with different approaches. 1942.gif

The dreaded 221(g). There is a cure but it comes in so many different forms (pun intended). 1943.gif
