Posting as it's a Sunday so I'm well aware I can't contact USCIS or do anything today, just wanted some opinions and experiences of others before I start the ball rolling tomorrow.

Last night my cousin back in the UK was killed suddenly in a car crash. I applied for my AOS, EAD and AP in June. What is the likelihood that USCIS will grant an expedite so that I can get back for the funeral, and what evidence would I need? I read that I would need a death certificate, I feel uncomfortable asking my aunty for a copy when she must be in unimaginable pain right now.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss :-(

If your local USCIS office isn't too far away I think I'd make an appointment and go in and discuss it with them asap - you can book this online.

It's unlikely that your aunt will receive a death certificate for a few days as they will need to see HM Coroner first and an autopsy may come before that. So even if you have to go back to the office with a copy of the death certificate, nothings lost and they may process your emergency AP without it.

The following link is useful: http://www.murthy.com/2013/09/03/emergency-advance-parole-best-avoided/

I'm sorry to hear your sad news. Every day during this AOS period I hope that I won't have an emergency back in the UK.

I hope this goes smoothly for you.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Last year I was granted an emergency AP, here is a link to my post explaining how I did it:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/415912-emergency-ap/

You should try to go to your local office, they are the ones who can really help you and they can tell you exactly what documents you need. You might not need a death certificate, maybe a letter from a doctor or policeman could work. But I think you will have to prove the relationship between you and your cousin.

I hope you can get the AP very soon to be with your family in this very painful time.

Good luck,

Maya

Thanks both. There are no appointments at my local office til the 22nd. I called USCIS and the lady couldn't tell me what evidence I will need or whether my situation is eligible but she put the expedite request through and apparently "someone" will get back to me within the next 5 days with all the info.
