Hello, I have a few questions on how to go about filing for sponsorship i am really worried about being prepared and making the marriage seem bona fide"

My spouse lives in Florida and i live in Canada Toronto. We met in 2012 and have been on and off but recently got back together this year, and plan to get married in a few months in Canada to take away the pain of him having to file for a fiance visa. I am 26 he is 21 we are a gay couple.

I do not have much proof of our relationships besides photos, and plane tickets at this point i am in florida at least 3-4 times per year. I am not sure what i should include as proof" besides photos, we have no conversations as we communicate through texts mainly and those arent saved for that long, we call each other through face time so there is really no record of much...

Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? also what i can expect after he files for me in the USA and how long we should wait before we file? We are planning on getting a joint back account, at this point..

Thanks.

As far as evidence, having a joint account is good. Your plane tickets and pictures are good as well.

Hey guys,

Proving your relationship through photos is a good start. Even though you guys have been on and off since 2012, try to find as many as you have showing trips, dinners and places spending time together. The joint account is a great idea. Keep your flight itineraries and boarding passes.

You don't need to wait to file after your marriage. My partner and I have been together for 12 years. So when Doma was strucked down last year, we decided to get married in July. We were living in Toronto at that time. We filed in September of last year. The reason was the marriage certificate took 2 months to be delivered. You need to have that to file for the I-130 form. Had we known that, we would have married in the States. So my advice, if you are in a hurry, don't get marry in Canada, but in the States.

After he files for you (I-130), the waiting time is about 7-8 months. Then there are other forms to be completed. All and all you guys will be looking at 10-12 months process.

Just be very patient. Good luck!!!

The K1 currently is taking significantly less time than the CR1. But it is more expensive and you can't work (or collect EI) or travel right away after moving to the USA so many people choose the CR1 route because of that.

Please read the bottom of this guide for ideas of bona fide relationship evidence to send:

Thanks for the information, do they expect you to include certain things and not others? In this day of technology with free phone calls through apps and texts i cant save all of that...I am not sure what they will ask us in the interview either..

Screenshots of texts and yes you can get skype messages in print form....I've seen people post how to do it. I personally did not use them as we had lots of other evidence.

Ir1/cr1 process is much longer than 7-8 months as someone posted. Try a year....or longer. Uscis and NVC are extremely back logged. Check people timelines for proof. Not trying discourage you....it's reality. Both are painful processes but the ir1/cr1 process is much better for travelling back and forth and allows you working privileges sooner.

Good luck!
