Hi Vj members,hope everybody is doing good. Im confused on selective service thng. I came here in the US in feb 2013 on K-1 visa and i was 26yrs old at the moment, got married in a month filed for AOS n got approved after 1yr and when i got my 2years gc i was already 27 and i wanst aware of selective service, later i fouund out nd tried to register online but it wudnt let me cuz it said iam 27yrs. I really dont knw what to do, did i really messed up?? shud i call selective service n get it fixed or i really dont have an option until i turnd 31 to file N400? I red online i will have to pay $250 or 5yr jail time?

If you were already 26 when you first entered the US then you were not required to register with Selective Service.

Your age at the time you entered the US is irrelevant because you entered as a K1 nonimmigrant. Any time spent as a nonimmigrant doesn't count towards the SSS requirement. Therefore, the relevant part here would be how old you were when you became an LPR.

You were 27 when AOS was approved, therefore not subject to the SSS registration requirement. Also you were already 26 when you entered the US, so even if you had entered as an LPR, you still wouldn't be subject to it. The SSS requirement is for men 18-25 years of age who live in the US, other than lawful nonimmigrants.

When you apply for citizenship, you would answer "no" to the question about the SSS requirement.
