I-131 reentry permit

Hi, I am a PR and have a Green card, My mom is ill and I need to go back to my home country to take care of her for more than a year. I applied for I-131 on June 27 and have it expedite. I did my biometrics on July 10 and now waiting for approval. However, I need to fly by July 29. If I do not receive the approval by then, can my husband stay and wait till it's approved and bring the permit back for me? Or do I need to inform USCIS for the permit to be mailed to the US embassy in my home country? thanks!

It's a small plastic card the size of a green card or EAD.

Hi Hypnos,

I got my re-entry permit in January, but it's not a card like you describe. It's a greenish booklet that looks like a passport and says Travel Document on gold letters outside, and has the Homeland Security logo printed on the front. Has pages just like a passport, because in fact, CBP might stamp that instead of your passport, depending on the absence.

Interesting. I had thought I had read elsewhere they were plastic cards, but perhaps not.

(Edit) I stand corrected. http://lawandborder.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Guide-Reentry-Permits.pdf indicates that they are small booklets, similar to a passport, as you described.

Hi,

I am flying tomorrow. I have done my fingerprint. It's been 5 weeks since they received my application. I heard that there might be an interview, but I will not be in the states. Will there really be an interview?

There are no interviews for an I-131.
