AP in Lagos

Hi All - My fiance had his k1 interview last week and was told further review is required and was given the dreaded contact sheet. He was neither approved nor denied. When he asked why need for the further review, the vo didn't give any information. I've already contacted our congressman and we received the same response from the consulate that our case is under review.

Now I already know we just have to 'wait and pray' so I'm not here asking what I can or need to do.

My question is for those with the same or similar situation, that interviewed in Lagos.

How long were you in AP, and those that were given a contact sheet, who was contacted? Also, what were the reasons for the AP if you were told?

The only red flags we could think of is that my fiance has been married and has two kids. They divorced years before we even started dating.

We have also been in the relationship for 6 years and have a 4 year daughter together.

This is his first application for a k1 visa.

They are probably wondering why you did not marry and filed a CR1 having a 4 year old daughter and a 6 year relationship

and are making document verification checks and a field investigation with the contact names to snoop out if you are bona fide.

and then denied without a reason. To our knowledge no one was contacted.

When I asked what the problem was, face to face during one of my visits while in AP, I was told "because I think your marriage

would not be a lasting one" and " I have just a gut feeling." Those were the ridiculous reasons given. That's it. Nothing more. Nada.

They will not tell you the reason for AP. There is no way to know when AP will be completed.

Of the 4 cases that have reported the "contact sheet" given to them in the last year. one was in AP since August was approved last month. One was in AP in December and approved last month. 2 others Who were in AP one in April One not sure, the April denied (this was a reaffirmed so 2nd time sent back).

The contact list most reported mostly all were contacted. Some had visits to village and neighborhood and questions asked. One said an elderly women in village didn't know of her (the petitioner) but that's because she never went to village. They were denied.

No one can tell you how long. It takes as long as it takes and every case is different. They may be sending field agents out to watch and wait. See who your husband hangs with, who's house. I am suspecting they don't think he is divorced. Of course it would be natural for him to be at ex's house get kids goodness. But this is immigration and everything has to be above board.

But you do have red flags as Ebunoluwa pointed out. To be in a relationship that long with a divorcee and just engaged. To a CO says "not committed". Why the hesitation (them speaking not me).

He was put in AP without a reason given. I visited him during the long AP and marched into the place where the CO held interviews

and asked what the heck was going on. ( Not possible to do it quite so dramatic in Lagos )

This was about half way through AP and it was then I asked her and she informed me of her gut feeling, without any factual reason

of course, just a shoulder shrug. When my fiance protested and told her how much he loves me she coldly told him to be quiet.

I had a senator and congressman email them and then shortly thereafter was denied.

Again, against regulation without a factual reason given.

It was a real colonial experience Yep !

Thanks for the info. We figured it has something to do with his previous marriage. In regards to the 6 year relationship, I supplied written explanation why we hadn't gotten married yet. I really feel like if that was an issue they would have asked him about it during the interview, but nothing remotely close to that came up. They just asked if he was previously married, and asked for his kids ages, names, d.o.b. and questions about me. To me it just makes more sense for them to deny if thay have any doubt than to put you in this ridiculous AP for some infinite amount of time.

That is so ridiculous! I can't even fathom why the Senator and Congressman would accept such a response without any evidence. I heard denials overturned for way more solid evidence and reasons for denial. And this is in Cyprus?

Senators have no choice but to accept it as they only can do inquiries and can't change the outcome or procedure. Too much discretionary powers of connoffs, unfortunately. The "unknown" of lengthy AP is horrible ! Then to get denied is a double whammy.

Yes it was Cyprus, which doesn't make it easier even though it is a fairly easy consulate. The fact that he is Nigerian changes everything everywhere.

Quite sad and absolutely against regulations. They are not supposed to re adjudicate approved petitions.

I contacted the senator and the congressmen and they aren't able to help you as the Embassy will still take their time in finding whatever it is they are looking for in your case. We were calledp on after 7 months AP and asked for him to go take another medical and come in the office. On June 24th He brought a new medical and was told he was approved kept his passport and to pick up his visa in 7 days. Today has been 18 days since then and we still dont' have a visa. We have called and emailed and he even made an all day trip there to pick it up and all they can tell us is that we are still under Adminstrative Processing and they will call him when the Visa is ready. So even with a yes, It appears we still aren't out of it. I wish you the best on your journey and pray it doesn't take a long time. Also, I agree with the red flag I think what they would see is why you have a child and have not been married yet after 6 years but nobody but them will know that.

Thanks! How often did you see updates to your case on the CEAC website? Was it only when they called your fiance to bring his passport?

We normally seen an update at least once a week or if we would email or call them then we would see it update for that date. Then at the end of April it didn't update for a little over 30 days. We stopped calling and emailing them just to see how long it woudl take the website to update at that point. It started updating in the middle of May about once every 2 weeks, Then the call in June. To be honest you can drive yourself crazy checking that website. I would only ck it periodically as you really can't depend on it to give you any info.
