Hello Everyone hope all is well,

I have a quick a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. My mother in law was just granted her visitors visa so she can come visit us here in the USA, during her visit we would like to take a short cruise and I was wondering if she can travel with us with her visitors visa or additional paperwork is required. We will be doing a closed loop cruise which is will depart and enter the USA.

Thank you in advance.

No additional paperwork is necessary. Even if it wasn't a closed loop cruise, tourist visas are multiple entry during their period of validity.

This can be somewhat of a difficult task. It really depends on "where". There are a number of countries where Dominicans can visit "visa-free." Her having an American tourist visa does not give her the same travel benefits of a green card. If you are traveling to a country not on the list below, she would have to apply for a visa to visit. Before you book your cruise, double-check with the cruise company to be sure.

Visa Free 180 days or less/Visitas Hasta 180 Dias

Montserrat

Visa Free 90 days or less/Visitas Hasta 90 Dias

Botswana

Colombia

Ecuador

El Salvador

Israel

Japan

Kosovo

Mauritius (60 days)

Palau

South Korea

St. Helena

Samoa (60 days)

Soloman Islands

Trinidad & Tobago

Uruguay

Visa Free 30 days or less/Visitas Hasta 30 dias

Hong Kong

Malaysia

Malawi

Micronesia

Nauru

Niue

Philippines

Pitcairn Islands (14 days)

Seychelles

Singapore

I'm not sure if this is even relevant to DR citizens.... daughter and son in law came on a cruise with us (they're from UK, not DR) and all they had to do was show their ESTA before they boarded the cruise.

If it's just a Bahamas/Caribbean cruise, I don't think you'll need ant extra paperwork, nobody asks to see passports or anything at ports of call... usually just the ship card.

I'm pretty sure your US visa will just be used to get you back to the USA at the end of the cruise....and they check it out before you even board the cruise at the beginning.

I'm pretty sure that's how it is... but if I'm wrong, one of the experts on the forum will correct me.

Have a great visit.....and a great cruise!! :)

Old and Grumpy....But an American Citizen!!!

A UK passport is one of the best out there because most countries do not require a visitor visa.

A DR passport is not as good as many countries will require a visitor visa.

This is not about if she can get back into the US after the cruise. It's more about whether she will be allowed to board if she does not have the proper visas (or visa exemptions) to visit the countries on her cruise.
